Playing as various characters in Remote Play

Hi, I tried playing Repentance with my bf through Remote Play, but he can't pick a character, he can only play as Isaac. Is there a way for the invited player to choose a character or do they have to play as Isaac?

They should be able to choose a character by going either left or right.

They can play as all of thr characters the host has unlocked

The problem is that when one of us picks the character, it starts the game and the other has to join by pressing enter, and they always are Isaac. I thought you could play as various ones, I think I saw it on ToG and I don't think it was a mod, since TBOI Repentance doesn't support mods yet. Which is why I'm asking 'bout it :c

When you press start there should be a small wheel of the character's heads in the top right of the screen (as this is where Player Two should be located) and you can move left and right to cycle through the currently unlocked characters. You can certainly pick your character as I have been the player two for many remote play games.
