Wow Proptosis got nerfed immensely

I finally found one a couple days ago, got really happy for my run, but instantly I realized it's now useless.

And Range Ups don't do anything for it. They turned an amazing item into gutter trash.

The actual damage is tripled point-blank instead of doubled. However, you have accidentally brought up a valid criticism: most Repentance changes were balanced by added synergies, but this one actually removed synergies, to a near-complete extent.

Why would anyone want to get point blank with so many enemies now exploding, spawning more enemies, or leaving tears or creep. Or some like the black jet engine slugs racing at the blink of an eye at you.

Its part of the same reasons god's flesh mushroom is useless tier.

Dark Bum is still essentially a demon beggar minus the one thing that makes me not want to use demon beggars (paying in damage taken) and gives Black Hearts Instead of Souls Hearts now. Still a must-take on any ???/"Judas"/"Forgotten" runs.

As for maw, its still a really good item? Its a chargeable pseudo-brim ring with good dps even post-nerf.

It's like a shotgun, being more effective if you're close. It still deals a lot of damage.

I just picked it up for the first time without knowing that it got nerfed to hell. He picked up a bunch of red hearts, and I got :

1. A friendly spider
2. An enemy spider, and they killed each other.
3. A friendly spider

All this for only 5 full hearts! Later on in the run, for the next 15 hearts, he gave out 1 black heart, and 2 pills.

He used to pretty much only give blue and black hearts. An essential item for ???, Forgotten, and Azazel. I am never picking Dark Bum up again.

While i can't find any concrete documentation on what his specific payout chances were pre-rep, wiki states that he has a 40% chance to drop Black Hearts, and only a 10% chance to drop a red spider. Only 3 drops for 15 hearts is also next to impossible because his payout is still 1.5:1. So yeah, think you're being a tad melodramatic.
