My main problem with tainted Jacob
It isn't the overall difficulty or that Esau can decide to just die from some random spiked rock, it's actually that any item that you pick up as ghost Jacob that gives you hp, just doesn't do anything. Specially unfair if Esau decides to randomly die without your input.

Like come on, give us the hp up even without a heal on the next floor.

As in, it doesn't add to your count for the next floor? That sounds like a bug, as it should add it to the "Alive" Jacob's count when the next floor starts...

it doesnt since when u "die" and become the lost, u do it with all characteristics including not having hp, so picking up a health increase doesnt do anything

I agree. Also I think the whole lost mechanic is just kind of weird? Personally i think esau turning you into the lost and him being able to die should be scrapped

Ghost Jacob should be like the white downpour 2 fire lost, you die in one hit but hp still exists and can be modified for when you return to normal.

Programming it to not reset after a room ckear should be easy, some challenges already modify how an item works just for that one challenge, pokey mans comes into mind.

Make Esau invulnerable and only dealing 1 full heart of damage sound a lot of fun to me. Right now, not to mention many room you have no way to dodge without flying or whatnot. And when you become stronger, you can easily kill him without the intent to do so.

I don't criticize the use something dangerous to progress mechanic, but it's just annoying that they don't know how much the rooms design can F you right now (Thin rooms, rooms with little pins [worst enemy added], or rooms have only narrow walkways).

Or he can just die on spiked rocks (actual worst addition btw)

I think to loosen the difficulty of this character you should be able to abuse the lost mechanic on devil deals (mostly because they are ♥♥♥♥ anyways) while still getting hp upgrades carried over to the alive version of jacob. If all else fails just use the meat cleaver to kill Esau and prevent becoming the lost.
