I must ask, are Planetariums worth skipping item rooms?
I can't deny there is a case to be made for Dogma runs.

With that said, outside of that scenario, whatever the amount of Star items we got (they increase the chance of spawning a Planetarium), is it worth even skipping a single item room?
Im at a loss for real. :isaac:

I never skip an item outside of dogma because that item room could be a crickets head. If you get nightmare catcher then you can skip bad items without going in.

If you have a great starting floor with extra resources or comfortable damage, it's worth it. Considering skipping a Curse of the Blind floor or having the Dream Catcher item helps you decide on Planetariums.

Something like Venus, Luna, Uranus and Pluto can really benefit a run.
However at worst you have a chance to get that annoying item Jupiter.
I never skip item rooms, and I got Planetarium often enough.
Except when theres crap in it like one of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beans, or the poop.

Even then, Jupiter isn't a bad item, it's at worst situational. Most planetarium items are specialised and extremely potent.

With how many items you can get now that are just worthless for some characters.I'd say it's worth it to skip at least one for the plus 20% chance.Especially if your playing tainted Bethany.Who's item is determined by what room she's in.

I always skip the first item room because the planetariums are so absurdly strong

thats the thing that weirded me out, they are not that strong in my opinion? i often get out of the planetarium room thinking i got another lame item. For example last run i got Luna, it was cool, but i could only use it effectively because i Trinket Smelted a Paper Clip and got a lot of stuff with it. even then it was just...underwhelming. it felt good, but meh. It just felt awkward, and all of the other items feel the same.

I agree, the strongest ones I see are the rock tears one ad the charming one, but neither are that strong. Maybe luna for the extra secret room, but I think that a possible crickets head or body beats any of them, when in that same planetarium pool there's mars.

How good are the chances compared with skipping the second treasure room instead of the first?
(The first doesn’t require a key, and I’d like some kind of upgrade at the beginning.)

Luna gives 2 additional super/secret rooms, that's already amazing, but now each increases your tears for the floor. How isn't that amazing?

Venus is ridiculous, basically a stronger 2spooky4me.

Uranus is one of the most busted items period.

Saturnus is great for additional damage and also gives protection from enemy tears like ring of light.

Neptunus can make you vomit an absurd amount of dps by salvas.

Pluto is great to avoid projectiles, and is a tears up.

Jupiter gives 2 hearts and has good crowd control. It could be considered the weakest due to the fluctuating speed.

Terra is an amazing damage up+utility.

Mars allows a lot of abuse with invincibility frames(curse rooms, escape, etc) and can carry you even with base damage.

Sol is the ultimate min maxing item, also allowing to speedrun to the boss, and the void is a joke.

Mercurius transforms the floors into walks in the park and you just go where you want skipping annoying rooms.

Every single one of them is a level above general items you can find in item rooms, how would you not want them.

You lose a 21% roll, so you only have 4-5 21% rolls if you do so.

Taking the mausoleum route after the mines, skipping the first item room, you have 6 times 21% chance, which is vastly more consistent than 4-5 times.

i agree very much with uranus, thats a nice item, the rest is extra, just icing on a cake, none of it is run making when in my opinion base item rooms have much more potential, like, THESE are the actual cake you need first hand. again thats just my view of these things

As far as I'm concerned:

1 - Terra - One of the best, does insane damage and breaks stuff.
2 - Luna - Meh, the tears are okay, if you have a few bombs you could make good use of it. + If you're lucky, you can get additional items from the secret room pool.
3 - Jupiter - One of the worst. Gas deals good damage, but you'd rather deal damage with your normal tears.
4 - Saturn - Ring of tears is decent, if you have penetrating shots it's super powerful.
5 - Venus - Super fun! You can just walk near stuff and they fight among themselves, also the HP UP is definetly good given how Red Health is valuable now.
6 - Uranus - Insanely powerful, the freezing tears prevent champions from bursting and exploding, also enemies that split or regen are instantly frozen upon death. Let's not forget you can also push the statues for aditional damage.
7 - Pluto - Really good aswell! Specially with characters like the Lost, helps a lot at dodging things and tears up are great.
8 - Mars - Kinda bittersweet. It's good for getting inside of curse rooms for free and if you're playing a character with heavy contact build, it's insanely powerful.
9 - Mercurius - The one I least used, it's for speedrunning, that's it.
10 - Neptune - Can be good if you don't have special tears, as they simply overwrite netune's "floodgate" effect.
11 - Sol - It has an insanely good effect but it comes with the risk of having to beat the boss first.

It depends., If you are doing ascent then I would suggest skipping Basement 1 or 2's item room because you'll be able to get it before the end and also gives you the most room for planetarium potential. If you are going for anything else then I would say it depends on how your run stars.

Of the planetariums I've seen so far they are just mediocre gimmicks. They aren't run winning or anything. Some characters just suck so badly without a first floor item. I just let them show up with the base 1% chance.
