I'd just wait for mods to be reenabled next update, I'm positive someone will make a mod to make J&E easier.
If the character is unplayable why are people able to succeed with them?
"Unplayable" is a bit much, but I get why a lot of people aren't into their playstyle, I personally find them to be an annoying slog to play as.
That's fair.
"Unplayable" was a big overstatement but imo clunkiness of J&E should be changed somehow. For me doing achievements and playing with every other character was an awesome experience until J&E showed up and somehow destroyed my pleasure and I think a lot of people can relate. I can't get over the feeling that concept of J&E is too odd compared to other characters, like J&E are not super hard to play, they're just super odd to play.
One, J&E is far from unplayable. Difficult?, sure. J&E are a unique character with a gimmick that's, at least in my opinion, really fun and creative. I don't get the people saying that they're harder than the Lost, because J&E boons far outweigh their drawbacks. Literally, they have the best offensive potential in the game if you abuse the snagging of two items in treasure rooms, and going for Angel deals.
Two, people are able to succeed by learning and adapting to the challenge presented. Considering the fact that most people were coming off the back of AB+ Keeper, the worst character in the game in any state, I don't think it's fair to call J&E unfair when they are giving you so many boons to abuse. J&E, at the most, is the 2nd hardest base game character. The Lost is still far harder and can kick your ass if you don't pay attention. J&E is also hard, but their boons allow for a strong late game.
As for current Keeper, he's fine. His base kit is still ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but it's not as bad as before, especially with the Devil Deal buff and the penny unlock being worth a damn.
The character feels like it was only designed with the challenge mode in mind "Double Vision" which it seemed fine as as i managed to beat it on my first attempt, it was still aggravatingly annoying as you have to plan your entire setup through the floors as far as pickups go. So ye the character isnt designed for prolonged play or constant runs due to the annoying controls and de-sync issues and starting with a slightly better powerup in that challenge makes it atleast enticing to keep attempting the challenge in case you fail but the main character doesnt even start the main run mode with this item so its the more tedious version of the character 95% of the game and runs are locked to.
Terrible character along with Lost and Keeper. The Forgotten is barely tolerable and Lilith at least is fun to play as as far as unlockable/DLC characters go.
The dlc characters was where this game could have shined even more and probably the msot important aspect for replay value/replayability but the developers went with the "lets be annoying and start trolling the players" mentality road and put in characters only 0.5% of the community/buyers would enjoy or be enticed to continue play as. We could have had 15-17 great characters to play as but instead got something between 11-12½. Its not a bad rate but for veterans of the game you kinda want to keep it fresh with new enjoyable characters you can consecutively play the game as and not cringe inducing new ones that force you to play the new dlc/items with the old ones mainly.
