any tips for eve?

i've tried a few runs with eve, and i havent been able to get to moms heart yet. i just keep dying to the fact i cant find any soul hearts to cover the 1 health i keep eve at because of ♥♥♥♥♥ of babylon. and the one run where i got to womb 1 is where i didnt use it at all, just got good items to turn eve into a regular character lol. any tips to help keep my eve alive long enough?

also i dont have access to razor blade yet

EDIT: dont have access to sheol or cathedral yet, well i mean technically i do but it relies on the faith/evil which has like only happened to me once, and i instantly died the moment i stepped foot into the sheol. so im running on ending at moms heart

Grind away for the razor. The worst ever is having 5 soul hearts and then accidentally picking up a heart without the razor. Also you can be more strategic with the ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon with the razor since you can essentially choose when to activate it. If you save all your hearts for the boss then slice away you'll have a huge dmg bonus + ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon dmg. Spirit hearts are the name of the game, so if you get the chance to pop into a shop definitely do that.

eve is great when trading away her red heart containers, devil deals or even something as simple as guppy's paw are really good. unlocking and using razor blade is good for keeping heart containers low for babylon.

isnt one the requirements beating satan? im still on moms heart, so i dont have access to the sheol yet, aside the occasional lucky satan room chance after it, but then i'd have to survive the sheol and kill satan

Protip for all characters: When you start a game and there is no golden room, just hold the "R" on keyboard for quick-restart. Rince and repeat until you get a good starter item. Something like Tech X, Magic Mushroom or anything you're comfortable with.

Another quick-restart option is doing it until you get a library. Get a key and look if you can get your hands on a Book of Revalations or Satanic Bible (quite easy, because library very often have 3-4 books as options), preferable Satanic Bible. This will give you a stay income of soul/black hearts and both help you to get devil rooms/deals, so that your red health stays at low as possible (prefarable one or no red hearts). The Book of Revelations increases the chance for a devil room to appear and the Satanic Blible switches the boss item to a devil item (which costs hearts) when you use it anytime on the whole floor before killing the boss. The good thing is, that devil items often increase damage, so eve cvan become a real damage machine when she is always in the state of ♥♥♥♥♥ of babylon.

Holding R kind of ruins the fun of the game though imo. Also the first item room is rarely all that important for the grand scheme of the run. There are hardly any items that will single handedly win the game for you.

I win like 80% of my runs without needing to hold R. It’s not essential at all for your first item room to be “good.”

I usually just try for regular things, the 1-heart gimmick is only good at the beginning and only if there are a few blue hearts to prevent instant death.

The R method is good if you want some easy unlocks. Having tech x right from the start is definitely an easy win. And there are some good items you could start with. And I dont think it removes the fun of the game, since the first item is a nice goody, but if the rest sucks, you're still probably done for.

Don't forget that some players are more casual and need tips like these. Before Repentance, I was only missing 8 achievements or so. I nearly have everything unlocked, so we both know techniques and strategies. The guy above hasn't even unlocked razor, so he is probably more or less a starter. Using tips like the above can make the life much more simple. :)

Take every chance you have to remove your red hearts , devil deals usually give out soul/black hearts in exchange so it's great. Blood donation, devil beggars and such are a great temporary option

Bro how is telling a newbie/casual to restart the game for 15+ minutes until they get an item that helps them walk through the game helpful at all? That is a sure fire way to burn out or miss the entire point of playing. What is there to learn from that? lol

He is asking for a very specific run. He wants to beat the game as eve without razor. If he would just play just4fun, he could go with any character he likes and then he wouldn't ask here. And just because he got a good item at the start doesn't mean he doesn't need to learn anything. He will probably mess up with any item if he has no knowledge. But this method makes it a little bit easier to proceed through the game.
