How to make Mom's Knife a good item.

Just let us use the knife like the forgotten use his bone.
If the knife works like that, it would be such a great item, but in the current state it just sucks.

It's a great item. I managed to kill The Beast with knife on base damage.

Mom's Knife is a top tier item. Like, top 3. The damage from it is insane and now it's significantly easier to aim with it diagonally. You can legitimately do well with it even on base damage(well, not easily but better than if you just had regular tears). Mom's Knife also got slightly nerfed in Repentance(the damage drops off faster I believe), but it's still one of the best.

It should have melee attack like the forgotten does with his bone, when a lot of enemies rush against you, the knife sucks af.

Yeah, being rushed down with the knife isn't ideal. But you still have the stationary one in front of you that can, with enough damage, easily fend off rushing enemies by holding it in the proper place. It's not like Ipecac(another top tier item) where you can end up in scenarios where you have to take damage if you approach the situation poorly.

In term of ranged attack it's okay, but if the knife had that melee attack it would definitely improve the usefulness against these type of enemies who rush against Isaac, just holding the knife waiting for the enemy to be next to you it's just plain dumb.

Fair enough, thrusting yourself against enemies with it is probably not a good idea without some sort of invulnerability. It melts enemies and bosses however, so that downside is kinda made up for x10 over. Adding more benefits to Mom's Knife would be unnecessary. Calling it a bad item is excessive and it doesn't even really murder synergies anymore.

In exchange they could nerf the damage of the ranged attack, but let me use it like the forgotten does his attack with his bone, which it should make more sense to use it like that instead of just holding it in your hands.

Oh yeah, If I had a Knife in my hands, maybe I should hold the knife in my hands if someone wants to attack me, waiting for them to hurt themselfs :)
