Help, my controller only registers as player #2!

I was in the middle of a run and went to step away for a moment. When i came back, I accidentally turned my controller off because I forgot it was on. Now it only registers as player #2 to BoI... I can press start to steal 1 heart and drop in as a little puppet guy, but I can't do anything else.

I tried restarting the game, both with the controller on and off at the time of launch. I tried restarting Steam. I tried rebooting my computer. I tried disabling my bluetooth. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless dongle. I tried plugging my controller in to use it as wired... Nothing works.

And to be clear, it seems to only be as far as Binding of Isaac is concerned. I can open another game and play them fine. Before Repentance, I would usually have to restart the Isaac client if the controller disconnected, but nothing conceivable works now so I'm guessing this must be a new bug in the game?

I can imagine it might be possible that if I chose to start a new run it wouldn't be stuck as P2 anymore, but I actually had on okay run and I don't really want to do that. Just am pretty frustrated atm.

In case anyone is googling this in the future and they never fix the bug, this is what I had to do. If you pause and go into the options, at the top there is one called Change Controller. And you can use this to force control of the main character back onto the controller you want. Your health and consumables will be on the opposite side of the screen, but it will work at least.

If you die, though, the next run will immediately revert back to the old scheme. I know this because I even tried to disconnect my keyboard/mouse before the game launched, but the main character was still under control of some nonexistent other controller. After replugging my keyboard/mouse, it was able to spawn in as a 3rd character so my only choice was to alt+f4 out.

Lastly, selecting new run after a fresh client load did indeed finally fix it so that my usual controller was P1 again. But given all the other weirdness and that I didn't experience it in Afterbirth+, it has to be some bug or oversight.

I can go into options but I cant click select with any button as “player 2” so how did you get to the change controller setting?

Possibly with mouse or keyboard? This was pushing 5 years ago, so I really don't remember all the details, sorry.
