Very low FPS after getting Repentance
Hi, I was playing the Rebirth version of the game for a long time on my laptop, now I bought Afterbirth and Repentance and the game runs terribly sluggish!

How can I increase the FPS in my game?

I tried changing MaxRenderScale to 1 in the config file, but it didn't help.

I tried changing the vsync=1 to vsync=0 (try that) and it didn't work for me. I have the same problem as you and I can't find a solution in any forum or video.

Hey, for me it was nvidia settings in my laptop that were working in saving energy mode for isaac for some reason...

you need to create a file called CONFIG.INI
with this content:

[Options]

EnableColorCorrection=1
EnableWaterSurface=1
EnableCaustics=1
EnableInterpolation=0
EnableFilter=1
EnableLighting=1

EnableShockwave=1
EnablePixelation=1
EnableBloom=1

put this file in resources.
works in both ab+ and repentance.
the drop in fps depends on the interpolation,
but set it to 0 everything goes back to normal...
if you want set off the pixelation between the levels
set it to 0.

This worked for me too. I went into the GeForce Experience app(i think part of nvidia), then to settings where you can find one called "battery boost" that limits your FPS when not plugged in to save power. As soon as I turned it off I stopped having problems.

Create a notepad but with ".ini" format, and put the commands in your .ini file without space, like this:

[Options]
EnableColorCorrection=1
EnableWaterSurface=1
EnableCaustics=1
EnableInterpolation=0
EnableFilter=1
EnableLighting=1
EnableShockwave=1
EnablePixelation=1
EnableBloom=1

After I did this, my game speeded up by 1.5 times. What to do about it?

When I tried turning off all those options, I discovered that the interpolation needs to be on, or else it runs at high speed.

I don’t know why it needs an option on to keep the game from running faster than normal, but that appears to be the case.

Is there a setting to turn off the effect in Utero where things sway back and forth (like, everything is wavy)? Maybe it's one of these?

I don’t think any of those will remove that effect (unless turning off Interpolation does it- but that disabled the framerate limiter and made my game run too fast.)

But I do know of two mods that remove that effect.

Remove all fog-like effects:

This one also removes even more effects (such as the glowing magma lines in the walls of Burning Basement.)

I tried using these before and Utero was still slowing down. I also got a run to The Catacombs and FPS dropped. Went into a shop and it's perfectly normal again. I don't know what's wrong and I don't know if I should use FPSUp because I heard it isn't compatible completely with Repentance (crashes when picking up Rep. items according to recent report).

EDIT: Okay, now I'm confused. I found a miniboss room with Envy in it, and that room, despite being in the catacombs, is completely normal, with no FPS drop. I leave the room and the FPS drop is back. This is really getting on my nerves...

Try to change your energy settings in your laptop or if you have a computer in your graphic driver settings. Set them to max perfomance or anything similar. That fixed the occasional FPS drop that the game occasionally does
For anyone, who still can't solve the fps drop problem:

Try to open the "Nvidia control panel" then go to "Manage 3D settings" and then click on the "Restore" button in the Global Settings tab. Then do not forget to set the "Power management mode" on "best performance mode preferred".

This method helped me alot and now i can play in repentance with Vsync on and maximum graphics on 60 fps without any drops. Hope it will help yall as well
