procontrol nintendo start errors
So I'm gonna try to get straight to the point, I'll put the long story in the comments but hopefully it wont be required. Essentially long story short I'm trying to get this game to start up with my switch pro-controller, I really want to play on the controller but unfortunately if I have the controller set up the game will not start. whether I open it through the desktop shortcut, library, or even big picture mode. If I go in with my controller already set up on steam it will immediately crash.

( when I first installed this game (the day before posting) this didn't happen but I didn't know how to get past the start screen because it wouldn't confirm my button presses so I started it through my keyboard and when I went to try controller settings found every button didn't look like it was binded to anything, while trying to manually set it up it freaked out and crashed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game three times but it's never gotten back to that point. )

So the only way the game will start up is without the controller hooked up. After doing so I try to get it set up afterwards, I get the controller started through big picture (because if I try to on regular steam page it wont for some reason) but when it does connect to it, I don't think that it transfers over to the game, because it still wont recognize the controller, and sometimes even going to the window where Isaac is running makes the mouse stop dead in its tracks on controller. The best I've been able to get in Isaac recognizing my controller is when steam wont recognize it and Isaac says there is an unrecognized gamepad, which ironically is the most recognition its given that its aware of a separate gamepad from the keyboard.

Because I am on macOS I worry there wont be a fix but I have played co-op with my controller from my laptop with my friend hosting before so maybe thats something. I also still haven't started any save files, if thats something where it has to be played once on keyboard first then its possible thats whats going on but I doubt it

Is there any way you can think where I can get the game to recognize my controller after launching? Or if my controller needs to be set up before-hand, a way i could get it to start without crashing? any attempts to help are appreciated

So the long story is basically just fluff but I feel like I gotta get it out there.
Ive been recently introduced to playing Isaac with my friend and cousin that I briefly mentioned here as the friend i played online co-op with, more often though I go and we do local co-op, with me as player two with my switch pro-controller, which works fine.
We've been having fun but Im always being carried so i bought the game to try to get better at it myself between meetings. since i'm playing on controller with her it doesn't make sense to get used to the game on keyboard, because the idea was to get better for when we play together.

so i get the game and as it says up here, when my controller works it doesn't run, and when it doesn't work it does. i know there must be a way to get my controller and game to work together. because its worked with my cousin and i assume other people. so far i'm just trying to see that it recognizes the controller. when it does, i imagine starting the game will still be hard without some keyboard help to open it, so i think something about making my controller the main input would also be useful.

update; during another test i was trying it looked like the controller was recognized by steam but not by the game, i looked back at the options menu and surely enough the controller wasn't there like it always was but then i thought about looking back to that freak thing that happened, and sure enough when i went back to a menu option that used the arrow keys to move it started freaking out like it did the first time! i think what was happening was somehow the left arrow key was stuck, flipping back between languages, screen size, music, and other things, this is what was happening before it crashed, or maybe i was misremembering and force quit because the window to full screen thing was freaky? since I've reinstalled the game multiple times i think whatever caused these settings to go all wacky is connected to my library instead of the game itself... could i get a refund and then buy it again? it feels like that could work if It also got rid of whatever thing I did to make it like that but if it doesn't I'm not sure.
ill try trouble shooting a little more and then go for the refund option cause tbh i have no other ideas, clearly the imput of my controller being there is doing something. its just not showing up in the controls as a part of it. maybe i need to forget my controller and then set it up again? ill do that before the other thing i think. fingers crossed!

FORGOT TO MENTION, the freak out only started after i tried to change it from windowed to full, then it started freaking out, if i changed other stuff it wouldnt start. so maybe it wasnt the controller?

didn't work :( granted i didn't really know how to disconnect controllers anyway but still. the only thing i can think of now is getting refunded and buying it again. but even thats risky. ill do everything i can to make sure if theres any data i have making this happen to delete it. if it doesn't work even then i dont know what. this post is basically just a log anyway but yk. if after ive broken everything someone has something to say hopefully itll motivate them to say it where someone else can hear who might also have this problem. who knows
