CO-OP not working at all

me and my boyfriend are trying to play co-op.. i invited him with the steam remote play system and as he press start to join me in the starting room, nothing happens.
we also tried reverse: he started and i joined using the keyboard, but as i press enter nothing goes on again..
what are we doing wrong?

I'm not sure if its the same issue, but when my friend and I would run into this problem, we'd have to constantly make sure both keyboard/controller options are ticked and then also check to see if it registers the correct controller rather than the one you are using. It can def be very glitchy and finicky.

we've even seen it register nothing on both sides.

I find it works the most consistently when everyone uses a controller and to untick keyboard as a control option.

yup, we got both all the dlc's.. both of our keyboard/controller are enabled .
as he presses start to begin a game everything is fine, instead as soon as he uses it to join me in remote it does not work but he can control my isaac in my game
