The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

why is tainted jacob even a thing?
i get it, getting chased by a ghost that can two shot you is a great idea, that's fine, at least u can use it to ur advantage for some dmg,
but the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing dies too fking easily. SERIOUSLY.
by the time when i reach the womb, he gets destroyed almost instantly and i have to play as the lost(WITHOUT THE MANTLE) till the rest of the run.

tainted lazarus is even worse, just a worse version of j&e. boring to play.

are the developers going to do something about some of the characters in the game?

They plan on making Dark Esau completely invincible.

Aw, I am hoping they don't do that, since it is hard to kill DE, but its got its bonuses.

that's rlly dumb, since you already get punished for killing him.

Which will make things kind of worse if you ask me.
But the thing that pisses me off the most is the "Lost" form you turn into. You CANNOT benefit from HP ups or blue hearts, like the Downpour Mirror Lost. This is the biggest BS to me. And ofc, as soon as I turn into the Lost, the game BOMBARDS me with health that I can't even use.

One of the suggestions being thrown around is that a hit from Esau will give you one or two broken hearts ie a permanent health reduction, rather than immediately becoming the lost.

That's still a pretty tough penalty, but I could live with that I think.

I'm pretty sure Tainted Jacob is just intended to be a really hard character. If you've ever played Super Meat Boy or The End is Nigh then you'd know Edmund loves to throw in insanely difficult challenges/achievements that the average player won't be able to beat. I personally think Tainted Jacob is a really fun character but I think it would be better if they made Esau invincible because I hate having to leave behind good items just to try to avoid killing him.

Either remove the penalty for him getting killed, or make him invincible. Like the OP said, the problem is that he gets himself killed way too easily, and then you get screwed because of it. Unlike regular J&E, you have very little control over him.

Agreed, that is BS.

Honestly, T. Jacob might be what gets me to finally stop playing this game. I’m not a casual player ( > 1500 hours played), and I’ve dutifully worked through all of the achievement marks with every other character (not to mentioned getting Eternal God on the original TBOI). I am not afraid of things being hard or having to grind: I didn’t mind when Keeper only had two coins, and I didn’t mind when The Lost had the D4, because even though it was tough it was still fun. THIS isn’t fun. You either have to rush through everything or tediously bait Dark Esau constantly. It’s like they took the most annoying part of the game – the escape through the mine with the second knife piece – and made it the ENTIRE GAME. I sometimes wonder if it isn’t better just to kill Dark Esau and treat this as a really tough Lost run, but I’d have to do it EVERY FLOOR!

I am now at the point where I am pondering what other things I could be doing with my life. I’ll probably wait for some kind of update. The idea of getting broken hearts instead of insta-killed sounds promising.

Ugh.

There's a mod that gives an indicator for where Dark Esau is gonna charge to. Doesn't do much I know, but personally I find it to be at least a little bit more forgiving.

yes it's ok for a character to be hard and challenging, but the latter part of the run just literally becomes "the lost" and eventho i've completed every lost runs, i just don't feel like playing it once more.

Ugh.
Killing Essau every floor in the room where you think the Secret room might be and then treating it as a Lost run is the way to go, imo (if you dont want to cheat with Mods or using the "Escape during Essau's death animation" route. Anima Sola is really powerful if you manage to get 9Volt and/or the Battery and it can easily carry your run.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't want to use any mods, but I wouldn't be opposed to things like Missing No, D4, or the Glowing Hourglass in the unlikely event that they show. Maybe I'll just take your advice and kill Dark Esau. Of course, then it's a T. Lost run without the Holy Cards...
