But it could be that the game is trying to use the wrong sound device. You could try disable the other connected sound devices (in the settings of your OS) just not your main one, and then launch the game and see if you get sound. If it works, re-enable the sound devices, and hopefully it just keeps using the right one from now on.
I've tried this. I'm using a laptop and only have one sound device. I disabled it, ran the game, then re-enabled it, and it didn't help.
I did not find a solution on the Internet and I began to search for this solution myself. And in general, I found a way out. I do not know if you have the Realtek HD Manager utility, but after going into the program options, I clicked on the "Configure front and rear output devices to play two different audio signals simultaneously" parameter, then the sound returned. Try looking for this setting in other applications if you don't have Realtek HD.

I'm not finding that Option in my Realtek Utility. How did you find this?
) - Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously.
If our utilities still differ, then try to look for an option. There should be a similar option.
I'm pretty sure our versions are not the same, and I'm having trouble finding an updated version... Realtek's site is a mess to navigate. Still, this is the best lead I've gotten, So I'm gonna try to do what I can to chase it. Thank you for the help, and hopefully I can figure this out.
I uninstalled the Realtek Driver, and am now just running on windows sound drivers.
This solved the issue.
I chased down your lead, and it lead me to some forums where people were trying to get their PCs to play sound from both their speakers and headphones.
I think what happened, was that the game was having trouble communicating with the Realtek sound driver, and wasn't able to find the correct output for sound.
Seems like deleting the Realtek driver, and then disabling my speakers, so that sound ONLY plays through my headphones, did the trick!
