Base edition alone worth it?
Hi, always wantd to buy this game. Is afterbirth and afterbirth + a must if I wanna start with binding of isaac? The amount of items always scared me a bit but I don't want a lacking experience if DLC is intended as a complete experience

Honestly, you aren't missing much. It's just more challenges, Story(ish), more items, and more but harder bosses. Base game is already awesome by itself. I'd recommend getting the base game, play it for a while, and then see if you want the other dlc. This might be my opinion but you don't have to, I'd buy both the dlc at the same time, but you can just buy the AB, play it for a bit, and then buy AB+ if you want to.:happygear:

Along with new characters and secret characters to unlock, items, trinkets, challenges and whatnot, you also get a new game mode and about two alternative floors that one leads you to alternative endgame.

Just to be sure, when you say "base edition", you mean Rebirth right? Not the original Isaac game? :P

Anyway, my advice: play Rebirth first for a bit, to make sure you like it. Once you're sure you do, get both AB and AB+ as soon as you can.

Nope. The Real Deal is AB+ and soon will be Repentence.
It's like you'd say "the bread is tasty enough I don't need peanut butter".

Let alone the Daily Runs.

I started this year and played rebirth first but after getting AB+ I wish I had started with that.

I posted this elsewhere:

1. Restock machine/restock item. These two things almost guarantee a win if you happen to have a moderate amount of coins or steam sale.

2. Hundreds of powerful item synergies. Brimstone + 20/20 + Epic Fetus anyone? In rebirth you just shoot one puny missile instead of a massive whirlwind of death.

3. 13 new transformations. Especially Bookworm, Leviathan and Spun.

4. Better and more frequent angel deals.

5. Better starting items if you unlock them, especially for Eve, Cain and of course The Lost.

6. Last but not least, sacrifice room. I often have 6 hearts laying around on the floor or found in the womb super secret room and I can't use them in the sacrifice room because it's utterly useless.

Also 7. Mom's drawer on each floor with extra pills and sometimes a mom item. Very good with PhD or starter deck.

And 8. Amazing unlocks from the new characters and from hush/delirium.

Unless it's an issue with not being able to afford it, you should buy everything. If for no other reason, then so you'll be working on all the unlocks from the get go.
