what does "breaking the game" mean?
So recently, my friend bought this game and its DLC, and we family share because we're too lazy to buy games to play with eachother, and recently he helped me play this game, and i got an item called Steam sale and he told me not to grab it, and then i went into the shop, and there was an item called diplopia, and my friend said to buy it, so i did, and he told me to go back to the steam sale room thing, and i did, and accidentaly ran into it. He told me i could've broken the game, and then i went on with the run and died somewhere

Breaking the game can mean a number of things. What your friend probably had in mind for example, was to use diplopia to double the steam sales so the items will cost even less.

So to review, breaking the game isn't exactly "breaking" it, but rather manipulating certain aspects of it.

yeah double steam sales will make shops free, then if you get restock you can literally pick up every item in the game.

breaking the game essentially means getting so powerful and so many synergies that the game will crash because there is too much going on. its fun the first time but usually you are gonna wanna exercise some self control if you wanna finish your run. btw there are a good number of ways to do this not just using steam sales

Breaking the game is when you can kill Hush just by looking at him.

A boss.
I won't go into the details, it will be fun for you to discover it on your own.

Just a few details though.
Hush is only available if you have Afterbirth, and you have to be quick to get to it. He's also quite hard for good-but-not-good-enough players. :P

really though, truly breaking the game isnt being really strong. its when you take one shot and the game freezes, that is by definition breaking the game. like I said earlier though I dont recommend it though because at best youll have to restart from that floor you were on or at worst you wont even be able to continue that run

You're technically right, but most of the time people say "breaking the game" when they should say "abusing game mechanics to be overpowered". So both versions of the answer are correct depending on how you understand the question.

Breaking the game typically means to abuse the game's mechanics/items/etc. in some way to get ungodly powerful, or at least get a huge advantage somehow. Typically not something you can do by accident.
