tear / tears shooting - strange behaviour - possible bug
hello

i noticed some strange behaviour.

first off: im using a mechanical cherry keyboard that has nkey rollover and is plugged in over a ps/2 adapter. so that shouldnt be a problem. also it BEHAVES THE SAME (!) on the gamepad.

so this strange behaviour describes as following:

when i shoot LEFT or RIGHT i am able to "override" that shooting with ANY direction which is kind of very comfortable.

but when i shoot UP or DOWN i am NOT able to "override" that shooting with LEFT or RIGHT only with the opposite direction i am currently shooting. means when i am shotting up, i only can "override" it to down and vice versa.

this is a really strange behaviour that sometimes leads to isaac not shooting while i have a key pressed. this comes when you switch keys pretty fast, and still are shooting to one side.

so this could happen everytime you shoot up or down and wanna change to left or right.

does anyone else have this behaviour and knows how to fix it. is this some sort of "game bug" or is it inteded? its really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when that happens.

as far as i remember the origianl isaac didnt had that "bug" or "feature" (if it is either of that?!)

thanks in advance.

sorry for posting again, but noone ever noticed it / knows something about that?

This isn't a bug, this is a limitation with the keyboard.
To save on production costs, manufacturers will wire multiple keys to the same circuit; keys that are wired into the same region will not function at the same time.

As this is a hardware limitation, the only way to fix it, is to buy a new keyboard without this limitation.

I knew what to look for because I used to have the same problem. I previously used the Logitech K120 Business Keyboard, which had this same limitation. When firing right in-game, I couldn't move down and right diagonally, I had to "staircase" instead.

Now I use a Perixx PX-1000, which I would definately recommend.

thank your for your reply.

my keyboard has nkey rollover (look it up) and
ITS THE EXACT SAME WITH THE GAMEPAD.

to be honest, i doubt its a technical input problem, more like how the game usese the input. but i am not sure.

i can move freely by the way. i just cannot shoot left or right when shooting up or down (or better say override it).

it seems we both dont have the same problem?!

Nah, you have different problems. Do you have any other ports you can use other than that PS/2 adapter? I'm sensing the adapter is the issue here if both the pad and the keyboard are having the same quirk.

Also, do you mean a USB to PS/2 adapter?

many mechnical keyboards with nkey rollover can just make the right use of it when using the ps/2 adapter that comes with it. i know, its strange you get "additional" features with using a adapter to a OLDER port, but its like that surprisngely (you can look that up too)

as far as i remember it was also mentioned so in some sort of manual ore something that came with it "use the ps/2 adapter to make full use of nkeyrollover"

and i do that exactly. its not a input problem so to say ... sometimes when you have this conflcits, the motherboard also beeps and i never have this ...

my gamepad is a xbox 360 gamepad and its connectet through usb ... and its the same with that ...

to me this seems like a design deicision or engine thing ore something, but it feels so wrong somehow ... and i dont think that its really intended?

i had the same problem on a notebook as far as i remember which has a total different setup but i will check that again, cause i am not that sure.

i would be glad if someone could check for me:

is overrding disabled for you too when shooting up/down and pressing left or right? it doesnt matter if i am running or not.

How can your gamepad have the same issue? Aren't you using the analog sticks?
hirnmixer Jun 19, 2017 @ 12:12pm
i use digipad and the buttons (abxy) which is also part of the standard binding.

i didnt really tried but it should not be possible to override with the analog sticks naturally cause its a stick :O

You know what? It does. I've never noticed this at all. I apologise, dude.

no need to apologize.

thanks for checking. good to know its for you the same.

so its how i thought it might be: its how the game behaves. not my setup.

i would be so glad about a "official" reply to this. will this ever be fixed?

if i recall it right, i checked this game back then at a friend and it behaved the same (i just remember some strange control issues i had there too, and i think it was the same mentioned). so it seems to be that way since some time.

i cant imagine this was intended, and if so, why? please fix it.

sometimes isaac is just not shooting. and im pressing the button for sure. its like its not registering (or late).

im not even sure if that overriding problem is the reason in this case.

so i would like to see this overriding issue fixed, and would be happy if some people could tell me if they also have the problem of isaac sometimes not shooting too (despite you clearly hitting the button). there might be something else to it.

its so distracting and i ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up many runs cause of that :(

EDIT: i just had this again ... isaac was not shooting and the button was pressed 100% (no input error too) ... i wasnt pressing any other button or walking ... i tried to shoot left (as far as i remember it was ALWAYS left that was bugged)

sry *bump*

i wrote a mail to the developers to isaac@nicalis.com

lets see what they say .. hope they help / reply ...

maybe other people could check / report back if they had similair problems ...
hirnmixer Jun 25, 2017 @ 2:52pm
in my run today it happened 4 times in a row.

im not really sure what is causing this.

especially: it seems isaac LOOKS in the direction i want to shoot, but doesnt shoot. it really is almost rage inducing, cause its so confusing.

not sure what is wrong. at the moment im thinking about if my arrowkeys from the keyboard are faulty, but i had this with the gamepad too, and never any problems with any other game so i doubt it.

i think it might be a combination of the overriding problem and maybe even something else.

i will try to rebind it to the numpad 'arrows' (2,4,6,8) and will report back if it happens again.

i even tried to find a onscreen keyboard that shows input to be exactly sure, but i cant find a really good one. the windows 7 onscreen keyboard does not have the feature to display the input it seems.

again: this is not a nkey rollover problem.

i am very sad the dev's did not replied yet ... and still im buffled noone else noticed this ... like i said: as far as i remember i had similair issues at a friend with a totally different setup.

sorry for double posting again:

i 'investigated' this further: and it is really like i said

sometimes isaac doesnt shoot LEFT (it was always left yet) but looks in that direction. its NOT a input error. cause i noticed when i keep the leftkey pressed, it starts shooting after 1-2 seconds. so it is registering. isaac is just not shooting.

noone else have this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful and annoying problem?
hirnmixer Jul 12, 2017 @ 8:59am
sorry

another update

after a few days and hours of playtime it didnt occured. until today. i just had this like 2 times within a few seconds. i was shooting left again. he was CERTAINLY looking into that direction (so the pressing got recognized) but DID NOT SHOOT. i hold the button pressed, and after 1-2 seconds he begun shooting.

i still cant make out exactly why. in this case i certainly wasnt pressing another shooting direction.

it probably has something to do with taking damage, taking items and the "shooting cooldown" it provokes. this sometimes just seems to be wrong/buggy. not exactly sure though.

im still very very upset i still did not got a reply from the developers in any form (not as email, not here in the forum). its a really strange and upsetting behaviour in this otherwise so so good game.

EDIT: and a few times even more now... wtf is this ... its pissing me off so bad... its certainly NOT A KEYBOARD PROBLEM... WHY DO NOT OTHER PEOPLE NOTICE IT?

Maybe you could take a video of what exactly is happening? I think there are screen recording or streaming services out there that record your keypresses, too, to further illustrate the problem.
