afterbirth+ just doesn't load

i have both dlcs but ive noticed afterbirth+ just doesnt work. Afterbirth works, and they're both installed. Ive tried reinstalling everything it just refuses to load no matter what i do

Try opening Afterbirth+ from the files and unsubscribing to mods if you have any.

I'm gonna save you the trouble of posting this on all of these discussions. Once the game reboots, that folder is automatically created again. It is IMPOSSIBLE to delete.

To make it "Readonly" and it wont be able to be created again


However

I swear to god 20 posts "OMG GAME WONT WORK AFTER LAST UPDATE " are posted every 24 hours
and the fix for all of them is "Disable all mods"

Disabling mods doesn't fix the problem.

Rebirth works. Afterbirth works. Afterbirth+ does not work. Uninstalling everything and deleting all BoI related files from the computer, then doing a fresh install of just Rebirth allows it to run. Then install Afterbirth, it runs. Maintain subscriptions to zero mods. Install Afterbirth+, the game loads the intro story, and crashes before hitting the title screen.

Even if you go into options and change enable mods to 0, and delete the afterbirth+ mods folder that is recreated all the time, the game still always crashes.

I didn't even have mods enabled the last time I played the game. Mine just stopped working.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. I've never gotten mods, I modified the options.ini to disable mods and I still can't launch the game unless I do a full computer reboot.

I just figured something out that worked for me. My symptom was the game would work a few times, crash when I closed, then after that it would act like it launched, my border for steam would turn green, it'd stay like that for about 15 seconds then it just didn't launch.

Today I disabled my nvidia control panel and the game launched with no issues, even though before I disabled it it wouldn't launch, and when I closed the game it closed without crashing.

Well, after starting and exiting the game 3 times, the third time it crashed when exiting so I guess I was just getting lucky.

Update: After looking it appears the nvidia control panel had started itself back up for some reason so I closed it back out and the game is still opening and closing with no issues again.

I have no mods, have never had any mods, have gone into the Workshop and confirmed I have 0 mods and clicked the "unsubscribe from all" button just in case, have restarted, reinstalled, deleted all files and reinstalled, just deleted the mods folder and reinstalled, and it still does the same thing :)
