Cards against humanity and hush

So long time since I played this and just discovered Hush on a run during the Darkness Falls challenge. Sure enough he wipes me. I go to get the unlocks with the different characters. I'm on Cain and doing fairly well(considering not the most optimal drops).
I get the boss to the third stage and he starts to spawn in alot of adds. My range is super low and my fire rate is quite poor(damn pills) so I go to drop a bomb to clear a few. This is the moment I f'd up.
I used the cards against humanity instead of dropping a bomb.....
So i spend the next 2 minutes clearing poop to free my super meat boy. No it didn't help. I think the poop stopped the boss from surfacing again. He just kept spawning in the wart things and I couldnt hit him. I tried to clear all the poop above him but he was in the top right corner and my range was low.
