The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Saves not loading in Afterbirth+
I followed everyone's instructions on how to fix the issue (copy saves from Afterbirth to Afterbirth+, then rename), however the game tells me that my saves are corrupted and nothing loads. When I play Afterbirth everything is still there, of course.
I haven't got any of the methods I've found over the past day to work. Anyone know what's different in my case?

Use the import function, don't just copy the files - the file structure has likely changed a little between afterbirth and afterbirth+ as they have separate save files.

If the import function isn't picking them up them open up the options.ini for afterbirth and afterbirth+ and make sure that afterbirth+ has the same steamcloud= setting as afterbirth does. The import function should then look in the right place and import correctly when used.

But the import function only works for saves from Rebirth? And yes, both SteamCloud settings =1

Ugh, just tested it (after backing up files, of course) and you're right - the manual import button only loads rebirth for some reason, the automated one if there's no data to load however does actually load afterbirth data. As such a workaround to get the correct import function would be to delete (or rename to something else - has to be all 3) the afterbirth+ save data files and then load the game up.

Alright, I deleted all 3 save files in the Afterbirth+ folder. Upon game startup there is no progress in any saves. I close the game and check back on the folder, there is one files that starts with 20170106.abp_, however when I load from it after renaming to persistentgamedata3 I still get no saves. Don't know what I could be doing wrong.

Did another test but it's working for me, I do however have cloud disabled for mine now (import worked fine for cloud when I 1st installed too - however the cloud may be automatically replacing the files before the game loads them, preventing the auto-import)

I'll see if I can make it work with cloud enabled, but the cloud is rather determined to not let you get rid of things in my experience.

What i did was:
1. uncheck AB+ and start AB
2. Activate cloud saving in steam (because i had it deactivated)
3. closed AB
4. checked AB+ and start it.
5. looked if the import worked
6. closed AB+
7. deactivated cloud ♥♥♥♥
8. renamed 20170106.persistentgamedata1.dat to persistentgamedata1.dat in the AB+ folder

LOL. For me it was the other way around. No import possible while cloud was DISABLED ^^

I have considered reseting my cloud data last night, but I'm not sure if it will also delete my data for Afterbirth, not just Afterbirth+ as I want it.

When this DLC came out, I played a bit but due to the balance issues I went back to Afterbirth. When the balancing patch came out a day ago I went back to it, only to find that it loaded my data from those runs I did before I went back to Afterbirth.
I have since cleared any data I had on Afterbirth+, and the cloud seems to keep loading those in, instead of transferring my Afterbirth saves.

It depends on where the save files are, which depends on where afterbirths were saved, which in turn depends on cloud settings for that - I disabled it for rebirth but manually synced the cloud data before installing afterbirth+ just in case there were issues.

As a result both worked for me - 1st time at least, but I can only get the non-cloud one to actually repeat the reimport, because with the cloud on it just pulls the saves from the cloud when loading the game even if I remove the local copies, preventing the game from auto-importing...

Rebirth/afterbirth/afterbirth+ cloud save files are all stored in the same folder (.../250900/remote/), unlike the non-cloud save locations which are separated. You can always back up the files manually, but you'd then have to make the cloud resync them still if they got deleted.

There might be a way to workaround it, but it's a bit finnicky:
1) copy your afterbirth (not +) save(s) from the remote folder into the afterbirth (not +) one with the options.ini and then rename them to remove the ab_ part at the start of the filenames.
This will provide a base for the non-cloud import to use
2) Change the afterbirth+ options.ini to have steamcloud=0
3) Load the game - it should import if you did the previous 2 steps correctly, then we just need to move the files back to the cloud side if you want to keep using the cloud. If it's worked fine, close the game.
4) Open the afterbirth+ folder with the options.ini again - you should see some new files called persistentgamedata (not the ones starting with numbers/dates, though they can be treated as backup files), these are the imported data files - you'll need to copy&rename these to replace the abp_persistentgamedata files in the 250900/remote folder. Be careful not to overwrite your basic rebirth cloud save files in the remote folder when doing this
5) Change the options.ini for afterbirth+ back to steamcloud=1
6) Load the game and hopefully due to newer timestamps it will accept the imported save data you manually put in the remote folder.

Wow, thanks man! It really worked!

Saved me all 23 hours of gameplay I had!
Daemonologist Jan 6, 2017 @ 8:34pm
Glad it worked, though hopefully they'll add a manual option in-game to import from afterbirth instead of just from rebirth at some point - the feature is already there so it's not like it's hard to add an option to manually trigger it as currently people using the cloud either only get to use the auto-import once or have to resort to workarounds like that.

Wow!!!! Thanks a lot man, I just logged in because I spent like hours trying to search for the solution. Thanks ^^

Here's an easy way of doing it. Decided to make a video on it because his method didn't really work for me.
