Buddy in a box pool

Anyone know if buddy in a box uses only the pool from co-op babies that you have unlocked or if it uses the pool of all the co-op babies in the game?

Unlike co-op in game uses only the co-op babies in game I was wondering if the item did the same thing.

p.s. Dose it even use the co-op baby pool or dose it use a special pool of its own?

I had Buddy in a Box and I noticed the random familiar I had had poison tears (if I recall correctly). He didn't look like a special baby as well.
