Any good tips for the "Pay to Play" challenge?

Seems a little more tricky than i anticipated when I found out going broke kills you X_X It's hard to be frugal and still explore for the treasure rooms when you don't have a map to begin with. Even with breaking every poop pile and putting out every fire I see <.>;

The only thing i can think of is restart until you get a curse room by your side. Check it and hope for an item that gives you a good start.

Also keep an eye on trinkets and items that may give you extra money...also blood donation machines.

I got Mom's Knife and Satanic Bible in the first Devil Room, and i found 2 of Diamonds card, which help me a lot. I'm so lucky >_<

finding a good library helps. a shop with humble bundle or sack boy makes this trivial.

lucky rock makes it even easier. Sack o pennies or coin tears from a chest, counterfeit penny, gulped penny, piggy bank.
