Anyone else annoyed as hell by the scoring in the daily runs?
Yes, I am going to whine some. While I love the concept of the daily run and think it is a nice touch that goes the extra mile, I find that many times going for high scores is more frustrating than fun.

Case in point: today's Maggy run. Getting to boss rush seems almost impossible with the items given (even assuming you get ♥♥♥♥♥ of Babylon and run around with it proc'd) and while I can get my score up in the 15K's-20k's with barely ever getting hit, I'm seeing scores in the 60K's everywhere!

I even practiced the run 5 times; one of those times I got lucky and saw we must go deeper. But that was only once and by dumb luck. I saw no Ehwaz runes, and there didn't seem to be almost anything to give Maggy much of a damage boost. So how are people getting scores this high?

Another case in point: got the lil chest item and it then proceeded to drop 3 nickels in a row on one run which REALLY changed how I played it. On other runs: tons of red useless hearts that screw me.

It would be nice if they just made these runs much less random. It's one thing in the normal game, as yes this game is based HEAVILY on RNG. But in a scoring run? It's just dumb and makes too much of it luck based and relegates skill to being an after thought.

What do you guys think?

Score doen't matter much. Even less so in AB+ where portals add RNG into who has an okay run and who has a longer/harder run. Not to mention the Rng involved in secret rooms often deciding who finds the seam or not.

So my opinion of score in isaac is quite low due to the seam factor and the portal factor. A person who is a flawless isaac player can miss the seam for not taking red heart damage to blow the first devil deal and get the second one with a shovel. Or a limited supply of bombs and an out of place secret room can decide a poor player tops flawless players due to dumb luck.

So just see it as a fun thing, where skill does decide some runs. But other runs its just dumb luck because seams.

Heres a great post on reddit, by the creator/owner of greedbutt.com. Other than the actual game developers he probably knows as much as anyone about the scoring system and what to do to get the good scores than anyone else. Unfortunately it isnt always as easy as it sounds but its great to at least know we're supposed to be doing!

Schwag is the only aspect of daily scoring that annoys me. I think it should be capped around 5-7k, which is roughly what you will get if you finish with 99 of everything. As it is just now though you can generate hundreds and hundreds more coins/bombs/keys and collect all them and push your schwag up to 16k, thats a huge gap and not everyone knows how to break the game, at least not consistently like the majority of players who end up 1st all the time in dailies. Also the daily should just be an extension of a normal run. In a normal run if you had the choice you would extend the goal, so ive always been ok with that, but you wouldnt get 99 of each consumable in a normal run and then think ill go get another 1,000, its pointless (or in the case of daily scoring the opposite of pointless!).

Maybe im just bitter as im one of those who dosnt always know how to find the break or implement it properly, but i was really hoping when + was released they would have looked at this

And yes I agree; I had a run the other day where I got to It Lives with Mama Mega and figuring I could get to Hush I used a combo I had of curse of the tower, with safety scissors, sack head, blank card and temperance/ace of diamonds to basically give myself UNLIMITED, coins, bombs, hearts and coins.

It suffices to say that I spent 90 minutes messing with this to find that it was NOT worth the time. Your gains taper off after about 150-200 of each to them being worthless and costing points due to the item penalty and time. And on top of that Mama Mega didn't open the door to hush either because the run is supposed to end after it lives so it apparently doesn't work in that case. And best of all: I passed up on we must go deeper figuring it would. So after going in with literally EVERY item in the game, imagine my disappointment when the run ended there after I one shot it lives.

................... TLDR: I was pissed. I'm talking starting riots, fires and kicking puppies pissed!

And no problem. That post only had 2 parts last time i looked at it so ive got 3 pages to read myself. Some of the maths goes over my head at this time of night , but good to get to know the basics!

And i tried that with mama mega too on a practice run the other day. I knwo normally if run ends at foot or heart its impossible to get to hush but id never tried this item before. Lesson learned!

I got double steam sale and just abused the hell out of it.

Needless to say, I was pretty damn low on the leaderboard, but it was worth it.

Now THAT was a fun run today. Got 41K and saw how I could have gotten about 11K more easily if I hadn't made a few small mistakes. Possibly even 15K (which would have put me close to the top 20 scores at the moment which are in the 55-69K range).

Runs like this I don't mind. Because I see mistakes and can figure out how to improve. But yesterday's run? No. Pure trash compared to this one.

Yeah really powerful run today. I just scraped over 50,000 but even though it was op i explored a bit too much too slowly at 1st so by time i got to depths had to rush to make rushes, losing out on exploration and rushing always leads to stupid damage for me. Plus as usual i didnt find a way to maximise cracked dice. Not that i tried too hard but i hoped for some temperance card drops but didnt get a single 1 even though i got hundreds of sacks!

Yeah, no Temperance here either. Didn't really see a use for it in this run though. With all the sacks you get and Bumbo, by the end the pickups are getting close to the point of being worthless and costing you points if anything. Plus that two of diamonds card I got early on was a HUGE find.

I would be curious to hear what you had in mind for cracked dice though. It seems like it could do a LOT more damage than good. I found a D1 too but didn't take it because I had the yellow teleport item at the time if I remember right.

With all the sacks and consumables dropped you could try group a load together in 1 room, then if you had temperance cards, or iv bag or something similar you can damage yourself multiple times to reroll all your goodies. You would likely get chest rerolls so by the time you open them then reroll the open chests and consumables soon youll have a room full of consumables and probably items. Then i guess you start trying to reroll the items for a blank card + jera combo, or even a forget me now for that extra exploration in the Chest, or both. It can be a really tedious precedure though in my view using cracked dice like this. Only time ive found myself really searching around for ways to use cracked dice is on foot runs to try get an ehwaz or 2 for the much bigger stage bonuses

I actually went back and practiced this run some; got up to 51K. Found crickets head and a BUNCH of insane stuff on one run and the next, nope. Totally different results. Must have had to do with the order I went into the rooms.

Picking up active items or not can change what comes up. Like today I had a run where a 7 cent shop compost I didn't buy. Ate my second floor item spawn with a 15 cent compost. Passive items you don't pick up can reappear in a run later too.
