That's the realistic reason why some US Soldier can't pick up an AK-47 and start firing it. Because their own teammates would hear it, fire at their location and kill them. In the military you get severely punished if you lose your rifle.
If you could just pick up guns on the battlefield in this game and there was just ammo crates scattered around then no one would pick Support ammo perk and would just pick the assault perk that gives extra grenades and smoke for both the Assault and Support class. People would just full-auto fire instead of conserving ammo with semi-auto headshots.
Edit: "not designed for a single player experience"
Yeah. And the jawas that abided by that are all dead. You don't have a clue what you're yapping about. All that shavetail bureaucracy ♥♥♥♥ goes out the window when your platoon leader is dead and you're under a hail of gunfire. If guys ran out of ammo, they were picking up AKs off the dead guy that was using it to shoot at them. End of.

That's the reality of war.
So, you can only choose equipment with 600/900 bullets in single-player games to fight the number of enemies with multiplayer difficulty.
This is the correct answer for every question about 'why there is not much ammo' or even why they didn't give ammo crates...
IMO thats good that the devs forced players on coop campaign to play safely and precisely in order to have feeling like in real event. You need to play smart, not in arcade way and thats good, then the gameplay is different
UM WRONG they could use enemies
