it's not the headset's fault, it's delta force's terrible sound design... sometimes you can hear steps, sometimes you can't and the localization only works partially. In general, the sound mix is just bad.

(everything refers to warfare, i have no idea how it is with the extraction mode garbage)

For virtual 7.1:

https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/gaming-audio/pro-x-gaming-headset-blue-voice-mic-tech.981-000817.html

I've had excellent results with logitech headsets and their RMA/warranty policy is insanely good. I had a G29 wheel break on me and they sent me a new one without even sending my own wheel back because I guess I've been a very loyal customer and they knew me.

I also have very good experience with HyperX products.

https://hyperx.com/collections/gaming-headsets/products/hyperx-cloud-alpha-s?variant=45561925370013

It's currently 46% off, $130 down to $70.

If you want something higher-end, pricier, that also works wirelessly:

https://www.razer.com/gaming-headsets/razer-blackshark-v2-pro ($200)

All are good choices but I'd go with Logitech on this one. All the headsets I like are off the market. XPG Precog analog is a Hi-Res audio headset, 2 channels but it uses an electrostatic driver instead of a typical speaker, but it's been discontinued. Amazing at telling direction though. No virtual surround, no nothing. Before this headset (the Precog analog) I had a Razer Tiamat 7.1 V2 which is a 10-speaker (5 on both sides) headset and offered true 7.1 surround sound, again, discontinued.

If I had to buy a virtual surround sound headset, I'd either go with Razer or Logitech.

I use HyperX w/ 7.1 and absolutely love them. They have a long life as well, the pair I am on have been with me over 2 years.

wow thats almost 3x of my budget

Steelseries is a bit overrated IMO. Plus a lot of their headsets come with USB sound cards so you can never hear raw audio without it going through a DSP that always changes the sound. My sound card was nearly $200 but with a steelseries headset, it bypasses it with it's own device. No point in buying a USB headset if you have a high-end sound card.

The best headphones for gaming are not gaming headphones, but the Sennheiser PC38X is a really solid "gaming headphone" and has a mic.

Virtual Surround generally sounds bad/artificial but you don't need a specific type of headphone to use it. Stuff like Dolby Access with Atmos or DTS Headphone:X works with any headphones.

I don't even play this game with sound, it's completely useless.

Also the static "generic shouting and battlefield background noise" that is just constantly going even if you're in the middle of nowhere by yourself in warfare is incredibly annoying once you notice it. And now everyone who read this will. you're welcome. :P

Sennheiser doesn't make those anymore and hasn't for a while. A copycat is now made by DROP but with incredibly low quality plastic and foam materials and the clamp force on your head is bad enough to give you a headache. The original sennheiser game one/zero's that it's based on were incredible, but unfortunately that's just gone these days. There are a lot of other "meh" headsets out there that'll probably work for you, but i wouldn't recommend the current PC38X anymore under any circumstances

I couldn't find any current headsets with an acceptable sound quality to replace my sennheiser game one's when they finally fell apart and ended up swapping to a set of beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's and a separate mic.

Another good choice is Audio Technica:

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/ath-g1

or if you already have a microphone, get their real headphones instead of their gaming line:

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/headphones/ath-a990z

or if you want open-back:

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/headphones/ath-ad900x

if too much:

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/headphones/ath-ad500x (open-back)

https://www.audio-technica.com/en-us/headphones/ath-a550z (closed back)

If you don't know what open or closed back means, closed back is better for noise cancelling, but open back sometimes sounds a bit better (less cluttered) and some people prefer to hear what's going on around them without having to take them off.

You can pair Windows Sonic with the Audio Technica ones for spatial audio.

edit: Oh sorry, you already relied to me and said you're going with Logitech G PRO headset, yeah you'll love em, I guarantee it.

Leaving the content here though in case others want it. Audio Technica is really good, better than anything Sennheiser made.

I'll give you a prize, I have the M50X and they work perfectly with HRTF.

As the other said, Audio-Technica is excellent for sound, clarity and comfort. Now if you prefer something more emulated, the most advisable in those terms are the Logitech G935
