That'st he point obviously einstein. A spot so we can practice and adjust the controls without wasting a spot on a team
The original controls are horrible.
Move the nose up, is named in the options as down, and the oposite, move the nose down in labeled as up.
Dont do that. your team only gets 1 heli
When you do get it, it is great cause the AI doesn't even try to shoot at you in the heli. So it is good for beginner practice. It's completely different in a live match though because helis are like pinatas that everyone wants a wack at so get used to hit and runs and hiding a lot while repairing and waiting for repair and flares to recharge.
Either way, I agree. We need to be able to pick the map for the drill as well as the side you want to play on. Although, if we were able to switch teams this would fix that part.
This also. Definitely rebind. I changed "yaw" to mouse and roll to keyboard(A/D).
So like if I swipe left or right on the mouse the chopper will rotate/spin and if I push left(A) or right(D), like strafing, that's when the chopper tilts.
Otherwise, default is a little crazy.
I also turned off(maybe) inverted vertical flight controls. What I want is when pushing the mouse up it lifts the nose in the air and it nose dives and pulling back.
It would be nice if there was an option, when selecting vehicle loadouts, to go into a range or "airport" like OP wants where you can mess around just like you can for guns as a soldier.
Also, definitely don't play Hill of Iron to practice as you will get wrecked and it's a waste of a chopper. I say you will get wrecked because there's always someone who takes the enemy LAV-AA to sit in their base spawn denying choppers the entire time. I like to think I'm a pretty decent pilot but holy hell it's such a pain in the ass with all the AA spam and every vehicle that can easily hit and damage choppers. Plus, almost everyone runs support there so if there are infantry there is a good chance they have stinger equipped. Tho, most have the AT4 for tank destruction. Not to mention the other little bird choppers that love to go after helis(me, lol) and the stationary AA structures.
The worst part of choppers though, is that non-squad members can't spawn on the chopper even if it is empty. So get used to flying solo.
One thing I just learned today is that if you do have a squad member that is flying you can only join on them if you click on the chopper spawn like you want to spawn in one and only then can you select to spawn in the chopper.
Another tip is that you cannot switch to a repair tool while in the little bird passenger seat, but if the pilot lands and you get out, switch to repair tool, and get back in you can repair the chopper in flight. But don't switch to commander seat because if you switch back to passenger it will default to giving you a gun and you will have to get out and get back in with the tool again. Also, you can't switch to launchers in passenger seat either.
