More generic soldier like you said, with focus on gunfight is better.
Here; some have bow with wallhack arrow, some grenades with no damages ;) (yeah fix this sh!t, 3 grenades ticked but no kill .. mmmm bllst), some with big jump, etc.
Let us choose if we want to get ammo, smoke, he grenade, anti tank mines, etc maybe one gadget or kind of.
Make a sort of marines combat feeling not pinky sh!t for kids on cocaine.
Maybe rewatch the movie Black Hawk Down to get the feeling we wants/needs ... It can be a good thing devs (or maybe an american movie is forbiden in China ...).
For me this game need 3 things; the marines gunfight feeling, better TTK, and bot removed.
And improvment how player are seen when they shoot, because to be shooted by an head is not cool, gun go on shoulder to shoot, so we have to see all this part of body by the player (bot) who shoot us.
It can become a banger or fails like a turd in toilet ...
And another thing, don't mix plateform players, don't want to be killed by aim assist from controler.
Fill out their survey in the game. Mention the operators.
IDK. For me at least, I find it players can be more unique if they are given the freedom to create and customize their character how they want instead of being forced into a pre-made character.
LIke in game's like BFV and The Division 2, with the level of customization those games offer, you rarely see two players who look exactly the same.
I agree with everything you stated in your post. The ONE, BIG flaw they have going. Since this is Alpha and not even a Beta yet, I have some hope they could change this.
Mind you some games in different genres, it works. It Battlefield style and Extraction games, it doesn't. Not I don't expect full "realism" but I do expect a level of immersion of other players looking like other players, mhm.
If they commit to this (Operators), I'm not interested. I'll wait until the next battlefield game (hoping they are done with the operator fisaco).
At that point, I'll just be interested in the Campaign, which you bet will actually have the soldiers we want in multiplayer.
But I don't think it'll happen. I very much doubt they will only sell skins, but also operators.
And before someone claims that they said the game won't have anything locked behind a paywall:
They can make an operator be very hard to get except you pay. It's not a paywall but a pay to fast, and they never said the game won't have pay to fast.
From my perspective on customization, they could sell more cosmetic items if they allowed players the freedom to customize their characters how they want. Players enjoy the freedom of character customization.
Look at BFV customization. Not only can players buy individual pieces (tops, bottoms, helmets etc) but players can also buy full outfits. BFV is the only FPS game where I regularly spent money on cosmetics. Most of BFV cosmetics fit the game and were actually cool as hell looking. Even with The Finals. In The Finals up until the other month, players could only buy full outfits outright, but they changed it so players could buy individual pieces of an outfit. After they did that, I actually started to spend money in the game. When it comes to cosmetics, I don't mind spending money to outfit my character, just not a fan of skins.
With Hawk Ops being some what a futuristic, modern shooter there's more room to make cosmetics for characters.
I for one would spend more money on cosmetics if I could fully customize my character like in BFV. Even with buying skins, you will still see clones and many other players wearing the same skin.
In BFV, with the amount of cosmetics and customization the game has, it's pretty rare to see players with the same uniform or outfit aside from the starting outfits.
Maybe I am in the minority for not liking the idea of full skins as the only customization option because again, I see more room to sell cosmetics to players who can fully customize their character to how they want their character to look.
I'd rather spend $5 on a cool as looking vest/rig, helmet, pants etc over time rather than $20 on a single skin.
In The Finals I probably spent over $60 on cosmetics after they allowed us to buy individual pieces.
Overall, the more freedom of customization = better for both players and devs IMO.
