Question about achievements.
For something like the Impossible achievement ... do I need to actually start a new game for that? Or the Perfect Platformer achievement. Or once I've beaten it, can I just play through the main levels again and beat them without dying or falling, etc.

If not, why do the guides suggest doing these on New Game Plus? Isn't the game harder?

You have to beat to the game from start to the credits without dying once. It's easier on NEw Game + because of all the upgrades you got in normal. Besides you'd know the levels by now.

So the general consensus is that having the relics and all of that from the get-go is a greater advantage than the elevated difficulty is a negative?

The elevated difficulty is only taking double damage and ennemies moving a bit faster. It's actually not that much more difficult at all.

But really it's mostly to save time; in your second playthrough in NG+ you can get all those achievement that require a complete playthrough like not fying, not falling into pits and breaking all the checkpoints all at once.

The guide says "main level" -- does that include the stages without bosses? Like, can you not fall or die in those?

You can't, death in those count as death for the total count (the witch in the village gives you). You also want to be careful about those because dying puts you on the world map and saved the death unlike main levels where you can exit to map to reset anything that happened.

Can you get achievements without doing those? And last question: does new game plus reset my music sheet collecting or should I go back and grab the few that I missed before embarking on it?

You can get the achievement that require you to beat the game without doing side areas. it's actually essential to avoid them for the speedrun achivement. NG+ does not reset any tiems, be it music sheets or relics, you keep everything from your normal playthrough.

Thanks for the response ... and the second one, third one and fourth one. Cheers!
I figured out the best way to get the Impossible achievement even though I play on a Nintendo Switch. If you die in one of the main levels just reset and everything, including deaths, will be gone. So by doing this achievement, you can also destroy the checkpoints because they will be useless in the achievement. I am at the tower of fate and still no deaths to my name from restarting every time I die but I think I have like 20 deaths but they didn't count because I restarted. I hope this helps.
