Why do people hate body swap mode?

There's literally no problem with it, unless you dislike the basic IDEA of having genderbent characters.
I like that they didn't go overboard with the sprites, using forced body types or anything. Like on female shovel knight, you can barely tell that she's a difference body type b/c of her armor!
But the characters are exactly the same, and their interactions are the same, so what's the problem?
Someone enlighten me, preferable without getting upset.

I made a thread called "What's the problem with Body Swap mode?" and got some very rational answers. The conclusion we came to was that the main problem was that it ruined Shield Knight's character. She was once a strong, independent female, which gave a good message, but now she has no canon gender, so that message is lost. We don't hate Body Swap, but looking at it in an objective sense, the original story was smarter.

But at the same time, isn't she also the damsel in distress? Also, body swap allows shovel knight to become a strong independant female character, if you should chose to use the feature

She is NOT just another damsel in distress, she helps Shovel Knight at the end.

But as far as us now having the option to make Shovel Knight a female, I guess that's a good point... but just having a female protagonist isn't as impactful.

idk, your thread seemed to be filled with people who got kind of upset and angry. It was hard to root through the frustration and find actual basic for their opinions... And anyway, I like body swap for a couple characters, just for the novelty of putting the hard work of Yacht Club Games to use. I like the body swap King Knight's design quite a bit actually.

And also, Shield Knight serves as a damsel in distress... until you realize that she's been the villain all along. It's an interesting dynamic, but she doesn't show that she can fight alone without being the Enchantress until the Spectre Knight DLC, in which it was awesome seeing her be a boss.

There was a little bit of that, I guess. And as long as they had fun making it, it wasn't a total waste of time.
