New To Game, Help?

So I recently bought this game, and had heard really good things about it from friends, but just bought it now, and I am loving the game.I have a dilema, I relized that I am terrible at 2D platform games, and am wondering what stratagies tips and tricks should I know? how should I spend my money? I am not looking to ruin the experience of the game for myself, I am just looking to make my playthrough more succeful.

If you feel your health is too low, then buy a Meal Ticket to increase your max HP. When you get a relic and feel that your magic is too low, then increase your max Magic at the Magicist. The stages will get harder later. If you need extra money, then you can break a checkpoint. If you break it, then it will no longer be usable. I don't recommend this for beginners. In a level, you should try to get the most gold and secrets as possible. Most of this stuff is probably obvious, but I'm just trying to help.

In the first few levels:
Pridemoor Keep (King Knight) has a relic that lets you shoot fire balls
Lich Yard (Specter Knight) has a relic that makes you invincible for a short time

[Halfshell]

I would recommend doing the Cave of Phasing as soon as it unlocks. It teaches a trick that I found invaluable, not sure I could have beaten the game without it honestly.

Just one thing: if you really have trouble, just spend your money on everything. You can just play the levels again to get more gold anyway, so it's not like you have to be careful when spending it.

And the more money you spend, the less you risk losing when you die. Yeah, when you're starting out, spend everything you can. You'll want everything eventually, anyway... if only to experiment and find the things that work best for your play style.

Where are they

The fire rod and phase lockets can be bought at the village after you complte their respective stages,but if you want to find them in their own stages the phase locket can be found in the room with 2 ordinary skeletons and the turkey and the bomb shovel drop on one of the skeletons on the left to get to the bomb and continue left.Fire rod is found in the room with the moving platforms and lava.Jump across the platforms and get to the door and overlapthe shape in the door,you will enter a room full of chandeliers get across them quickly and you shouuld find Chester.

I just found the fire rod before this coment was posted, but thanks alot for pointing me in the direction to find the item in specter knights place
