Ragnarok Online - Free to Play - European Version

Ragnarok Online - Free to Play - European Version

Do not waste your time with this.
First of all, I adore RO and I've played iRO for half a decade, as well as spent some time on private servers later. This client, however, is not worth your time. First of all, the translation effort is laughable, the game is full of Engrish and half-translated textboxes, which is unprofessional at best; considering that the company wants you to pay money for the game (which is fine), having both the website and the client look worse than a typical private server is insulting. Frankly, I am sure there are plenty of enthusiast players who would fix the translation job for free, so the game just reeks of low effort.

Translation aside, the game still has the same shoddy netcode it had in 2002, so don't expect a lagfree experience even if you're in central Europe. The fact that the game requires you to run it as Administrator (which, granted, is a a general trait of the RO client and not specific to this one) is outdated and provides an extra risk.

As far as the game itself goes, the newbie area is well-built and makes it relatively easy for you to get to First Job as far as official, 1/1 rated servers go. As dar as I could tell, there are quite a few "kill x monsters" quests to help speed up your leveling, but it's still a Korean nightmare grindfest so be aware of what you're getting yourself into. I did not get to experience the performance/server's community during WoE.

I really want to play this game again, and as a European, I really wanted to like this client. I just can't jusity spending my time with this game when it continously shows me how little effort went into making it.

And don't dare to make my internet connection bad, I live in Germany, we have Gigabit Connections

No, we don't. In fact, compared to other countries, we are among the bottom of the list. Your typical connection speed here in Germany is ♥♥♥♥.

I can download a Terabytes within a hour if I wanted to.

You couldn't even do it with 1 Gigabit if the server you are downloading from provided enough bandwidth for one whole hour, which brings me to my next point:

I agree,
1. Totall Laggy... Sometimes you cant play... and dont blame my provider or my connection, all of my games works fine.. and no lag

this is just sad for a official euro server... 2. overpriced items... 3. not newbie friendly.. i know some pserver where the tutorial is much much better and explains you everything.

4. The game IS AWESOME but this Server is killing it !

thats why im leaving to pServer one

PS: Nice p2w item Shop -.- !

Well, i'm playing from germany, too. I don't experience any lag issues while playing on it. Why do you blame the whole game, when there are possibly other reasons for your lag? I play in one of the biggest and most successfull guild of euro and we can play woe/mvp/pwm on a decent lvl without any game breaking lag.

I play without steam tho, because i've had it installed already before. Maybe it's a steam-wise problem. I don't know. We all don't know unless we have more info on your problem.

Not a good look, nothing really original as far as I've seen... a game to avoid indeed...

You can't say its not 'good looking' or 'original' because this game was released in 2002-2003. So its one of the firsts MMO games out there.

Actually, your logic against private servers makes no sense.

1) Private servers are not illegal.

Making private servers (just like copying and sharing software) is at best in a legal void and is not currently considered illegal in most countries of the world so long as you do not make profit out of your copy/private server.

And while we all know private servers make profit, they do a legal trick, which is to simply accept "DONATIONS" so the user is not actually directly "purchasing" anything on the server and thus, again, it is not illegal.

And the EULA is not considered an actual legally binding contract in most countries so whatever you sign up there actually means nothing in the real, legal world.

Why do you think most of the 10 years++ old private servers are not shut down yet?
If simply making a p-server was illegal no server would last more than a couple months.

2) It is not true that pirating makes companies lose money

If i do not have money to play a game and i play on a private server the company is not losing money because if that private server did not exist, i would simply not play at all.

If the money is never there to begin with, then it can´t be lost or gained.

It´s like those who fight against "Piracy" and claim that every single copied game is one game less than the company is selling, which is utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

If i dont have money to buy a game, not being able to pirate it will not magically make money appear so i can buy it s, so the company would never have my money either way.

HighFive Nov 26, 2013 @ 10:16am
Piracy is illegal, there's no point trying to deny it. The reason why many of them are still open is that closing a server (and thus engaging a legal procedure) costs money. Money that will probably only be a loss since it won't give us magically tons of players.
During the past we did that more than once and we never lost our trials.

Also your money argument is not valid in this case since Ragnaok Online is a free to play, and it says it all, it's free.
So if you want to play to this game, you're welcome to do it here. Everywhere else is piracy and thus illegal.

Actually i do deny it.

The legality of piracy and the legality of stuff like End User Agreements changes from country to country and even from state to state in places like the U.S

In many countries such as Spain, EULAS are not really legally binding in most of it´s forms and piracy is not considered illegal unless the "pirate" makes a profit oft it.

So the way i see it, the legality of piracy floats in very muddy waters and depends on a ton of factors and situations, so to make a statement such as "it is / it is not" is not correct.

I do play it "here", you can check so on my very profile.
I also used to work for Burda I.C back in the ol´days of euRO!
Good times! <3

By the way, it is not true that "everywhere else is piracy and thus illegal" as there is many other legal versions and servers out there, such as the international.

P.S: I am not endorsing piracy (I play in this server) nor claiming it should be made legal, i am merely stating that things are not as simple as devs often let it look like.

It changes a lot depending on what, where and how.

I was of course talking about private server and not about official servers but I'm sure you understood that. And we only use legal rights in the EU zone so far against people using content created by Gravity Korea.
The only fact to gather player elsewhere can be considered as a loss, even if as you argued before maybe they'd never join any official server, but still. This combination of beeing the owner and having a loss of players always worked good for us so I wouldn't say that they should consider what they do as safe and legal.
But anyway, that's not the purpose of this topic and the less we're talking about that, the better it'll be.
