Ragnarok Online - Free to Play - European Version

Ragnarok Online - Free to Play - European Version

Do not waste your time with this.
First of all, I adore RO and I've played iRO for half a decade, as well as spent some time on private servers later. This client, however, is not worth your time. First of all, the translation effort is laughable, the game is full of Engrish and half-translated textboxes, which is unprofessional at best; considering that the company wants you to pay money for the game (which is fine), having both the website and the client look worse than a typical private server is insulting. Frankly, I am sure there are plenty of enthusiast players who would fix the translation job for free, so the game just reeks of low effort.

Translation aside, the game still has the same shoddy netcode it had in 2002, so don't expect a lagfree experience even if you're in central Europe. The fact that the game requires you to run it as Administrator (which, granted, is a a general trait of the RO client and not specific to this one) is outdated and provides an extra risk.

As far as the game itself goes, the newbie area is well-built and makes it relatively easy for you to get to First Job as far as official, 1/1 rated servers go. As dar as I could tell, there are quite a few "kill x monsters" quests to help speed up your leveling, but it's still a Korean nightmare grindfest so be aware of what you're getting yourself into. I did not get to experience the performance/server's community during WoE.

I really want to play this game again, and as a European, I really wanted to like this client. I just can't jusity spending my time with this game when it continously shows me how little effort went into making it.

If thats the case, i wont bothering with this ROsteam client either.
I played this game for 5 years too, and still wanna play on a nice hungarian server, but there are none.
If what [F!]Devt said is true, then I rather finish my own server and publish it, than playing on a half messed up 1/1/1 server (I like 5/5/3 best).

This guy is right. Im a veteran (end of alpha/ early beta) , played a lot.
But now this official server is managed by total incompetant. Ridiculous cash shop. Instable server with no lag free. And a premium account for still 10bucks with cash shop ? , that make me laughnt.
I know some private server that's its 90% of the time perfectly lag free , no pay to win cash shop. And more than 1000 players at the same time. Now if you wana enjoy ro Pservar is the only solution (but this is my point of view).
And i wana add "lol fro lol"

Good for you~ maybe you should take you leave then Mr. Big RO Veteran Guy Thing :remedy:

Dunno what your definition of "Ridiculous cash shop" but most pricing seems okay for me and nobody forces you to buy something.

So you know about premium accounts? Aww... i've got some bad news...
Something similiar to the cash shop thingy.
Nobody forces you to buy something. But if you do you should do it trough the Gravity Gateway stuff so you'll get 1 month premium and 500 Karat.

Promoting "Pservar" isn't that nice either. But thats something for the modly ones to handle.

Well i don't want to bother you any further Mr. Veteran but at least you should try to spell words right or you'll look like a generic douche[www.urbandictionary.com]. :dsham:

I din't said that shop prize is ridiculous , i just loath cash-shop in any mmo (and this is not a money issue) I just found ridiclous that the premium account still cost the same as p2p . But the prize are correct (cash shop). Talking about pservar is indeed a bad idea , but im not giving any name or links. And imho if you wana play in the long haul premium account is a must

Aye~

I think cash shop stuff is something one can't discuss properly because everybody got his own measurements about it.
The RO cash shop got very few untradeable items so provided you've got the zeny you'll be able to aquire most stuff through trade. Now one can argue that something like a Battle Manual for 100 Karat costs between 15 and 19m zeny. Then I could say there are player willing to buy your low level loot for a good price meaning there isn't a problem and so on.

For premium i think you don't really need it.
True, you'll get more exp, higher drop and some prices are reduced but there's nothing you can't get in the long term.
You can even use a Soul Stone (20m Zeny) to change to your Third Class.

Like I mentioned above and that's something everyone should aware of who's willing to get a premium account is the Gravity Gateway.
You're able to buy Karat on ragnarokeurope.com and exchange 900 of them for 1 month premium. Makes around 9 Euro for 1 Month.
But if you get your premium through the gateway you'll get 1 month premium and 500 Karat for the same price reducing the cost of premium to 4 Euros. (If they don't change it)

Thnx for review, won't play this game. Always wanted to when I was a child but ppl nowadays just seem to want a quick cashgrab out of their customers.

Good choise!
There's nothing wrong with being prejudiced even if you don't have to pay anything to try it out~

I played RO2 Online (http://store.steampowered.com/app/231060/?snr=1_7_15__13) and it was very nice and polished. Best of all (in my humble opinion) I never felt forced to spend real money and was happy playing it as F2P. I willingly spend some money on bigger bag spaces across characters but that is because I'm a horder not because you actually needed it.

Even the first mount you get is obtained with in game currency and not special shop coins.
Auction House was also great, made tons of in-game cash selling things, never feeling forced to spend real cash.

Is RO1 Online also like that or should I not even bother if I have a RO2 account?

You should just give it a try (after all it's free).
Because RO2 is nothing like the original you can't compare them.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have never played RO1 and wanted to get some feedback before downloading/installing it/creating accounts etc...

If RO1 is different then that is great (for me) and I will give it a shot as I just didn't want to download, install, create accounts for something which was the exact same only older.

I played my char in RO2 to level 27-ish and never thought it was p2w.
I was always able to beat the monsters within my level range, even 2 levels higher occasionally.

I know there is still 23 levels I have not played so I'm not sure how p2w applies to RO2.

Is RO1 p2w?,..well..what is it you consider p2w?

Lezard Valeth Nov 5, 2013 @ 8:33am
RO 1 is not a p2w. Also RO2 is one of the most "glitched" mmo i have ever played (got stuck out of the map with a character unusable after 10 minutes of gameplay...)
RO1 is my favorite mmorpg . RO2 is one i truly hated.
