Is not a bad game but has many places where falls flat.
Time travel is a weird flex but combining it in a bullet hell setup is what makes me not like the game at all.
The fact that you only can get hit once is super annoying.

People compare this to Broforce a lot, but Broforce was a fun fast platformer, this seems to work against itself. Enemies are more bullet-spongey which makes you slow down, all the while the game wants you to go fast. It does this by abusing the time-mechanic which is unique, but not necessarily fun. After the "ooh wow that's new" wears off you realize that you're forced to replay parts of the level 2-3-4 times just to have enough firepower to blow through a section quickly.

What starts off as unique just comes across as an unfun gimmick pretty early in.

Tries to make a mountain out of a molehill: adds unnecessary complexity to what could be a Broforce clone. It's a cross between the Lost Vikings and Broforce and it just doesn't work. You need intricacies of one but the action of the other and it's too hard to manage both. I did the tutorial and did the first two levels and saw where it was heading and I noped out of there.
I love the aesthetic and intro was good.
I can see how other people would be into this, but I don't have the patience.

Before I start, I'd just like to say: the game is decent! It's just got quite a few flaws and has a very niche appeal so it's hard to recommend to most people.

Super Time Force Ultra is a game where a band of vigilantes use time travel to save the world, and to change it to their liking. After saving the world from an apocalypse, they travel to the era of dinosaurs, the future, a Mad Max-style apocalypse, the medieval era, and Atlantis. It's a run-n-gun game with pixel graphics where you have a variety of different characters to choose from, each with their own abilities and dying in one hit, kinda like Broforce which I loved.

The special mechanic of this game is that when you die, or despawn your character on command, you can go back in time to any point in that character's past life and select a new character to play from there. In addition, everything that last character did will still happen, as they exist as a time clone which stays permanently in the level, copying the inputs that you did for them when you were playing them. Every level is on a timer, and it's important to use the time clones to multitask and get to the end in time.

I feel like this mechanic is a strength and a weakness of the game. It's a very nifty thing, and makes Super Time Force Ultra a unique run-n-gun game. It's fun to watch replays of you with all your past selves running through a level, tearing down everything in sight and defeating well-designed bosses (and minibosses!). On the other hand, it was difficult for me to get used to the mechanic for the first time, even after the tutorials at the start of the game. After a while it begins to feel less like a run-n-gun game and more like a puzzle platformer. There are three beginning levels in the game before the player gets to choose from multiple different points in history, and I think if the difficulties of those opening three levels were toned down a little bit it would be a less rocky experience at the start.

Besides that, the game has a couple of aspects where I feel it falls notably short of other games. The game's humor has mostly not aged well, relying too heavily on the 2014 internet culture at the time the original was released. There's a couple funny moments, such as when the giant holding up Atlantis eats an endless hoagie that extends out through the foreground, but many attempts don't really land. The characters, while diverse and offering a variety of options to the player, feel pretty generic. And the music was entirely forgettable outside of the level select theme.

Overall, Super Time Force Ultra is not a bad game, it's just okay. I feel like I can only recommend it to serious run-n-gun fans who want a big deviation from typical games of the genre. If what I said enticed you to try it, by all means give it a go and make your own opinion on it.

While the rewind mechanic seemed interesting at first, it just doesn't do it for me gameplay-wise. Maybe I'm too dumb to use it properly but it just doesn't seem to add to the fun at all. The controls are a bit janky (can't aim diagonally without also moving). And the humor is pretty cringy. Not my cup of tea.

A game which desperately tries to make dying - over and over again - fun. It does not succeed. Many reviews praise the “fresh” design choices made in this game, but I fail to see it as anything more than Braid with guns and an obnoxious time limit. The fact that levels are timed might lead you to believe that this is a speed running game with fast, fluid gameplay. Sadly, this is not true; the gameplay grinds to a complete halt constantly, forcing you to use the time travel mechanic to solve puzzles and defeat more challenging enemies. So frustrating that I couldn’t force myself to play it for more than half an hour.

Saw enough in 20 minutes to uninstall.

Tutorials that confuse you to quit aren't tutorials and even in 2014 I am sure that 360 degree aiming would have been possible.

But what you get is up, down, left, right and diagonal, which always gives your AI opponents the edge.

I was playing games before it was retro gaming and emulated modern retro gaming is NOT fun.

I will probably install in the future and try again, but for now it is a no and another bundle game I wish I didn't own.

Banging soundtrack and great visuals. Funny dialogue and a unique game play mechanic. All that being said I still got bored, so I may be broken. Would recommend this to anyone with 10 bucks and like 3 hours to realise you too are broken inside then this is the game for you!!
