Kill the dragon achievement

I was just looking at the global achievement rates and noticed that 0.7% of players have killed the dragon, but only 0.5% have the half way there achievement. How is it possible to kill the dragon without getting him down to the half way mark?

Some people possibly killed the Dragon before the achievements were added, thus it registered the kill but not the half way mark.

I think there was also a bug for a while that meant if you killed the dragon in one try it didn't register the half way mark.

There are probably other reasons too but these kind of things are why the math doesn't quite add up.

If I remember correctly I saw some discussion about this year ago - you gain the achievemnt "half way" if you die while dragon health is under half. When you kill him in one run you do not gain half way achievement. Was this solved meanwhile?

Yea that's what happened to me actually. I was surprised back then when I killed the dragon but didn't get Halfway There, so I had to enter the dragon arena again and intentionally die with the dragon at under 500k health (then I finished it off after that 'cause why not). I'm not sure if the achievement still works like this tho. Been reading some patch notes too since I started but I've never seen this being mentioned, so yea.

Sorry for necro, but how in the world could anyone ever kill the dragon in one try!? I'm getting max 6k damage done each run... Tried looking stuff up on the forums, and all I see is that rogue is the best because of its low HP? I've seen different strategies, but nothing that makes sense to me on being able to kill the dragon in one run.

How can you be so good at it? What's the secret? haha

I killed dragon in one try a year ago on lower level of rogue with intended low HP - his damage is percentage of your HP (therefore low) and regeneration from items is based on level of item (therefore high), so regeneration beats damage. It was very boring one-hour fight. Then on high levels it did not work as I had ill luck on item drops and found no replacement for low level regeneration items, which lead to me stop playing (though still monitoring forum if some fix of item system will occur).

One thing you can do is to grind stats from the shrine (I suggest grinding the 30 bag slots ASAP to make this more efficient). Donate as much as you can. Never upgrade health if killing the dragon is what you intend to do (I kinda messed up with my first character because I upgraded her, a fighter, a lot but I did manage to kill the dragon with her in a few sessions. I created a new black rogue just for dragon farming some time after that). Get a good amount of luck stat early to aid you with finding good gear (it also makes the minimum damage that you do higher). Basically what Sniper said in #5 is right, but the more stats you have and the better gear you have, the shorter the fight will be. If you happen to find shields with heal on block, KEEP IT. You will need all the heals and regeneration you can get in the dragon fight. Also I think it's best to fight the dragon at max level. Haven't played the game in a while so I may have forgotten to say some other useful stuff.
