Joining free drones
Is it not possible to do the free drones questline if we returned the lost train to rail crossing? Even we did it peacefully and didnt report there were the thieves to the protectorate?

No, returning train blocks free drones questline.

I don't remember correctly, but i believe it also blocks off protectorate questline too. You may want to reload if you wanted to take either of the side.

it is sadly too late for that now, I did it too long ago in that playthrough. I have an open quest saying I should contact the protectorate ambassador for more work, so I will see how it goes. But I joined the Oculus, so I am not sure if doing any protectorate quests wont do interference with them. I would have preferred joining the free drones, but well... I will see what is still available to me.

Ah, if they sent you to ambassador, it's probably fine, Don't worry about Oculus, it's a separate questline.

Well, at the very least, protectorate have better store, especially if your character uses guns. Even if not, you can sell looted guns and armor there.

ok, Thanks for the tips!

To get into the Free Drones you have to be an utter bastard.

To finish he Protectorate you have to be an utter bastard (in their defense though, only to military targets, which the FD can't claim).

Anyone who tries to tell you one is better than the other is trying to sell you something.

The correct answer is to do neither.

Being exposed to the mutagen seems like a somewhat more cruel fate than the humanitarian crisis in Rail Crossing or simply getting killed (RIP envoy). The drones are also "nice enough" to let the train go, albeit this option prevents you from joining them

If you don't want free drones to suffer from D5, nothing stops you from personally putting them out of their misery in a more conventional way. CAU wouldn't care.

That was somewhat nerfed during one of the patches. There used to be an option to enter their hideout, kill them all and then release the mutagen, but currently you can't enter their hideout without activating the mutagen first so you have to act fast if you want to do things more mercifully

I think it's impossible to have a thread even remotely touching the subject of drones and cans without someone pushing unsolicited moralization on everyone in it.
