Destroying / Getting rid of items you don't want
Is there a way to do what the title says? Like completely obliterate items you dont want (not plot related obviously). I haven't played in a long while so I apologize for the somewhat dumb question.

Like "Healthy heart", "lungs", misc components you wont ever use, that kinda thing.

Thanks. I think I'll drop that stuff in a locker at my place in the SGS although I rather destroy it. For hummm.... "gaming ocd" reasons...

I too have a dedicated trash locker, but eventually you just start to leave stuff on the ground if you don't want it. I wish the game had item decay though. Because a few spots can get a bit messy with rathound skins or whatever.
emdope Apr 4, 2015 @ 11:59pm
Ofc there is a way to do that. "Recycle item" blueprint - destroys items into 3 cathegories: "Metal scrap" pieces, "Electronic scrap" pieces and "Fabric scrap" pieces. If you will get the "Repair kit" blueprint, you can make from those scrap a Repair kit, for the 1 - metal, 2 - electronic, 3 - fabric (for leather armors).
If you will collect organs, with "Extract humour" blueprint you can utilise organs into chemical components like blood, acid, poison etc. Useful for stimpacks and other injections like morphine, adrenaline etc.
Get to know the game and you will see that every component is for something:) Except maybe "Red dream mushroom":)

Yeah but that envolves spending skill points into to the various disciplines you want / need to recycle item from. Its less than optimal to say the least. Like Tin Tim said, I wish the game had item / remains decay so that unless a item was stored it would get destroyed eventually.

Those rathound halls and caves get VERY messy.

Nonsense. I got lvl 23 now and all my skills are very high. Game allows you to build up your character over time, so most of the skills will be available to you anyway. And some of them are a must! Try messing around with people that have metals armor on them, in later part of the game almost all enemies are heavily equiped, so you need shields, metal armors, emp grenades and such. Its best to raise skills that are usefull, like mechanics, electronics, chemistry etc. So you can make much better items than available in shop. I myself made an energy shield that has over 1148 points of shield, compared to those in shop - pfff 300-350 shield points. So you see - dont spend points on useless skills, invest in heavy stuff ;) And remember - you will grow stronger the longer you play, so don't worry if you are not getting everything at start. Thats the whole magic of rpgs, ain't it so? :)

I think you're not getting where we're going with this. I'm not discussing builds, what happens late game or what I should or not do.

I'm just saying it would be nice to have item / remain decay for stuff I currently dont use or plan on using (OR at least the ability to destroy said items) because halls and caves get clutered with trash (and it is trash to me) and its not easy for me to navigate these said halls and caves a second time with that much trash laying around.

To be honest i don't think the said items should dissapear. I will tell you why. When you are short on money you can always go back, grab what you can, get back to shops and sell it. And the navigation trough caves has nothing to do with the stuff on the ground. You will get to know the caves after some time. Get used to it. Besides, there are situations in which you can't grab all that you want, so you can leave some stuff on the ground and return for it later. I think that some items laying on the ground don't do any harm.
However, I think something is wrong with corpses. In some places they dissapear, in others they don't. Corpses are awful. They mostly spoil the look of any visited place. There are lots of corpses in some of the places i have been :))) Somebody call the cleaning crew! :))

Short on money? When? Even with the economy system this game has I've yet to be short on money and I don't even craft that often. I currently have 3 full stacks of charon coins and another 3 of "sgs money". And I think thats being poor.

Look, we just have diferent views on this and it's fine.

Yes, you are being poor =)
Only for one super-steel you need 3k charons.
emdope Apr 7, 2015 @ 8:12am
Vengefully: That is because, like you said - "I don't even craft that often". Well, I craft tons of stuff :) I even travel 3 to 4 times between cities sometimes to buy everything that has over 100 quality in components :) I had like 10 stacks of 999 charons in each, but then i managed to go to 70 charons because of that :) So you see - it depends on playstyle :) I like to get the best items i can, and crafting is one of the best parts of this game :) Feels like Arcanum in this :) And yes - mindless - best components tend to be very expensive ;) I agree with that in 100 % But i also think that: corpses should dissapear (i don't know, maybe rats ate them;)), some stuff left behind on the floor is nothing wrong, but i agree that maybe in some crowded places it should dissapear (maybe some npcs liked the items and took them). But in caves etc. - NO! I like to get back to some dark places to get my items back:)

We're obviously talking two diferent languages here and its my fault for going off track as well.

All I was saying (and asking for, I guess) was for a way to destroy items I DON'T USE. The point of recycling is you destroy something to get something else. I don't want that something else AND I want to be able to destroy ANYTHING regardless of skills points I might or not have.
emdope Apr 9, 2015 @ 9:30am
I see your point. But can't you leave those items in some barrel or smth? ;) It doesn't hurt at all. You don't need them, then don't collect them :) Otherwise what's the point of taking them in the first place?
From my experience most of those items come in handy anyway. But i understand that some people may take it as collecting useless stuff. Drop it somewhere or hide it in some basement where you will never return and that's all :) Or don't take them with you from the start! :)
I don't see how dropping stuff people don't need could be a problem for anybody.

BTW - Imagine (in the real world) destroying AK-47 or some other weapon, it would be very hard, yeah? So its the same in this game. You can destroy a rifle, but you still will be left with some items the destruction has "produced" (spare parts).

Last update also brought us a new blueprint "disassemble item" which can give you the parts used to craft this item back:)

I agree, that adding this small "obliterate into oblivion" :))) or some other "destroy forever?, are you sure? - yes!" option wouldn't hurt, but.... this would mean we would have 3 options to destroy an item:

1. For repair kits (scraps)
2. For parts (disassemble item)
3. For nothing (the option you insist on implementing)

Feels strange, but i can accept that. I just don't think it really is necessary.
But if I were Styg, I would consider implementing this option just to satisfy the non-crafting players.

P.S. - Are there any players out there that don't like crafting?
- Yes!
- WHAAAAT? ;)))))

Well at least now we're discussing what I wanted / proposed / asked.

Originally posted by emdope:

My issue(s) with those options are:

1. You must have the skill(s) to do so.
2. You must have 7 Int AND a feat to do so.
3. You wouldn't have to get anything (other than a possible blueprint for the recipe, of course).

Besides, I'm not insisting on anything. If you look closely at my original post, you would see that I was asking, after a long time not playing, if there was an option to destroy items because I honestly didn't remember if there was one.

I don't dislike crafting, mind you. It's just that when I craft I get EXACTLY what I want and very rarely does anything I craft need an "upgrade", meaning I get tons of "useless" stuff I'll never use. And even if I do decide to upgrade, rarely do the many shops fail to provide me with the stuff I need to do so, including higher tier items for the "upgrade".

That why I'm advocating for the option to destroy items without the necessity of investing in skills or feats (or even atributes). It would help in keeping the Underrail clean for those people, like myself, that don't want to double check everything during their travels due to the enormous amount of loot that shows up. You would simply take what you want, safeguard what you're not sure of and dispose of the rest. Bam, clean cave / facility / whatever the place.

Oh and this:

When I say destroy, I could've just as easily said take to the trash, dispose of. Real life presents you with multiple ways to get rid of something without having to get something in return.

emdope Apr 11, 2015 @ 12:21am
Ok ok ;) I perfectly understand everything you wrote. I agree that this option would be a valuable asset for some players - that is why it should be added. End of topic:) I must say i enjoyed the discussion however:)

P.S. Just to show you the benefits of using higher quality items for craft (and to brag a little, to show off a bit :D) i made this screenshots with descriptions:) These are the items i currently use:) They are much better than the ones u can buy in shops:) Check it out:)
Wonder if they are better than the ones you use or close to them?

Not bad not bad :)
I don't have stuff that impressive and I don't even use armor for that matter but I can say that my Supercrit build with an Electroshock Gun is all kinds of cheese xDDD
