Starting the expedition DLC without joining Aegis Sec
after rathound king death (even without doing camp hathor quest line) you may notice some dude will spawn at camp hathor's dock who would sell his jetski to you, this is probably the earliest way to get jetski. the guy who sold you will warn that theres an expedition at the black sea and dont go there, if you go there anyway theres gonna be a cutscene that the aegis group at core city dock depart without you. its not really mentioned in the wiki but have anyone complete the dlc this way? it seems like playing the dlc this way will be extremely hard on a blind play specifically you dont have a navcom device. so far there doesnt seem an alternate way to join aegis sec expedition team and you will be conflicting them anyway even if you didnt join the pirate (also if you join the pirate at this point some dialogue are altered). for whatever reason when you go solo, the aegis sect will jump you outside nexus of technology after you get the security clearance upgrade ultimately making them your enemy.

Pretty sure the wiki does mention this. It's in the quest page. The quest is called "Expedition without you".
You don't need anyone's help to finish the DLC and find the Acorn.

I imagine if you go in blind this way, the best route is to join the pirates. You can ignore their quests, just being a member is extremely convenient.

expedition without you in the wiki mention it happens after you betray aegis sec (kinda), technicaly the dlc can be done solo but i was curious if theres a special interaction with aegis if i go to black sea alone (not via core city dock)

I did a quick test and they just aggro onto you if you get too close.

yeah, they have a new line goes along with its a war zone to shoo us away and then goes guns blazing if we try to dock, i hope styg put a new interaction to potentially join them via this route or such. if you didnt join aegis via core city dock, the option to persuade weasley to enter the facility by donating them medicine are blocked, that mean after you got the arm, mutie refuge will be enemies afterward and you cant visit their merchant again
FYI, if you join Aegis, find Phil's arm, then proceed to start checking out the old NFT facilities before talking to the professor, Aegis will think you've gone rogue and become hostile. So having them be hostile if you just waltz into the area without joining them first makes perfect sense. They see you just like they see the Natives and the pirates.

Use intimidate to get in and then fix the generator. Fixing it means they'll be friends even if you used intimidate. Just make sure you fix it the first time you're there, they don't let you back in if you come back a second time.
Might be a good idea to do that even with Aegis, saves you on the medical supplies.

That makes them bad guys though. They don't know you, so they try to murder you? Not morally justifiable.

I never said they were good guys ;p Just that it makes sense from their point of view to treat you like an outsider who's potentially hostile, same as the pirates. Given that basically everyone there has tried to kill them, it's not unreasonable to assume the worst, heh.

Even the Ferryman, who doesn't cause them issues, is 'potentially hostile' because he's been seen engaging with the other factions who 'are' hostile to the expedition.

Also, our modern day moral framework doesn't really apply to a brutal world like UnderRail's ;p

Just realized that in my 1500+ hours I have never spoken with or interacted with those muties with anything other than murder. So they have a vendor and stuff?

Yeah. You need to convince them to let you in first (persuasion definitely works, not sure if there's another option). Then talk to the leader and offer medical supplies in bulk (or just use intimidate if you have it), then talk to the doctor about what he needs. This is the peaceful route if you can't sneak in, or don't want to murder your way through.

edit: Apparently there is an 8 INT check that can also get you through the entrance if you don't have persuasion, and obviously you can intimidate as well. You can also bribe the guard with a few medicinal items (morphine, nervosomnifier, or similar). So yeah, there's a good few ways through if you don't have persuasion levelled.
