Spear throwing is OP, you can throw with only 3 strength
The precision is only affected by your throwing skill, which means failing strength won't impact spear throwing, and putting those points into dex not only means higher throwing skill, but also higher crit chance; I will see if Expert Throwing feat affect spear throwing, if it does, I can probably throw from 12 tiles away with 80% hit chances, even without crit, that's almost triple the damage with spear wings.
At lv 20 I got Zaman with only two shots after netting him, one is a spear throw cirt(the spear I had been using since Depot A, 70+ quality Tungsten), hitting for 4 digit damage, then another hit for 140 damage Fatal Throw.
I almost regreat learning spear throw, it made my Dominating game way too easy.
I had started a throwing build with dagger off-hand mostly just for parrying, but learned spear throw to deal with tin cans and some robots, but turns out spears throws contribute to probably half of my damage output, how can I be so powerful with only one feat, it's a must for every dexterity melee fighters too, just too good.

It's exactly what a throwing build needs against high-mech-resistant targets, which means it will also handle virtually everything else. That's more just the game design than anything. It's my hope that in Underrail: Infusion, there's a bit more of a rock/paper/scissors approach to damage types and defense.

With such high DEX, you can also build up Melee skill and pump up the damage of Spear Throw even higher.

ive never used a spear in this game. 200+ hours in and it never even crossed my mind. I assume the spear throwing is silent??? Im a stealth sniper type dude, but the snipe rifles in this game is not stealth at all tho. Cant even put silencers on them. So maybe, spear sniping??? I just started a new playthrough too so I may just delete that one and try this.

AFAIK, it's a silent attack since it's based on a melee weapon, which are generally silent. Don't know if it will make a bit more noise with a shock or energy model.

But yes, this might be what you're looking for. A popular variant is the ThermoD sniper (throw Thermodynamic Destabilization on a target, one shot them with Spear Throw, watch their friends nearby get blown up). If you want to stay fully silent, throwing knives with feats (Split Spare, Fatal Throw, Ripper, Pinning) work well for cleanup. Temporal PSI lets you throw two spears in one turn.

Why not use crossbow if being silent is so important to you, I personally dont like being silent, noise can attract enemies and they will literally suicide hitting my traps.
But I mostly dont even need traps because spear throwing is too strong I think, I can take a 70% discount to my spear throw dmg and be just fine.
Im considering restarting another build

Spear throw is good, but it has a giant list of drawbacks so I wouldn't call it overpowered. It's funny when you do get everything set up to do insane damage though.

Spear Throw is good for the base game, where you tend to encounter small groups of enemies and can manage throw/retrieve easily.
You'll have a harder go of things in larger fights and Expedition, I imagine.

Spear throw is only one feat so you really dont have to rely on it, but there's simply no other feat that gives you means to tap into your high DEX and allows you to do more damage than game .44 pistol aimedshot and longer range especially late game, even at near point blank range where you can retrieve spear just steps away , while also making up for armor penetration and giving melee fighter a means of range attack.
And not to mention you get 3 AP reduction from every specialization, while every specialization from fatal throw also gives 3 AP, and quick pockets gives you 2.5 per specialization. That's what makes throwing build with spear throw OP! No any other build can increase effective ap with JUST specialization.

I did once toy around with The Claw unique + spear throw, just to find out just how hard it can hit. Spear throw will one shot anything that can get contaminated+infected (vile weaponry), two shotting everything else, on dominating. The cons of spear throw are similar to sniper, you can miss multiple 95% in a row what makes the experience a bit less fun. But 10k+ crits are hilarious :)

Nothing pisses me off more than having this crap happens multiple times back to back, like WTF is this!? xcom with the BS misses!?
Its even worst with grenades because at least with snipe, you just miss, but with grenades, you friggin kill ya self or end up flash banging yourself, now your just getting dog pilled on.
