Spoilers: Depot A
Is it going to get much harder than this from now on? Because it's really killing the mood for me. Depot A is seriously annoyingly hard, not just hard. I love a good challenge but the amount of mines, turrets and packs of op (for my level) enemies are making me play less and less, because I'm just not enjoying at all this part.. It's a complete pain in the buttocks.
Thanks

Depot A is pretty much a bottleneck to put your build to the challenge. Afterwards the game opens up, so you usually have plenty of stuff to do elsewhere, should you be stuck at one point. Also, don't forget that the way through the depot is not a linear one. You can avoid most encounters.

Ya I've been keeping 3 backup saves from different path branches just to be sure lol. I'm glad to hear that after this the game opens up, is there world travel like in Fallout?

There is no overworld map; the game world is seamless, kinda like Dark Souls if you will. You can fast travel between hub areas via train, but there is no map travel.

I'm not even at Depot A yet and I'm finding the spikes of difficulty obnoxious. It's not cute. ♥♥♥♥ Security Drones. I'm sorry, but I despise these darned things. I'm playing on Normal, yet I'm never able to get proper initiative against the drones. I'm trying to break into Eliwood's house since apparently some kind of bug has locked me out of going back to Silent Isle because I didn't think I could do it yet. The whole, shoot, shoot, flashbang of the Drones is absurdly annoying. Multiple times I've lost iniative only to get consistantly Flashbanged by the Drones, preventing me from even defending myself. And even then the EMP Grenades don't do enough for me to even stand a chance. It was annoying getting past the Security Drones in the GMS Compound, its annoying here.

Just feels like the difficulty is inconsistant. Like, there's challenging difficulty which is hard but fair, alright? But then there's the unfair difficulty part of aspects of the story, where I can not get out of running into THREE Security Drones the MOMENT I open the door and dying because I've been stun-locked by the drones. And yet I've been stacking my Dodge and Evasion so I have to ask. "What the hell?".

EDIT: Okay, after creating a 'Galvanic Psionic Overcoat' Tactical Vest, they're a joke because they can't damage me except on Critical hits. Huh...

Its hard. But listen,

A: Craft some acid resistant leather armor or buy it if you don't have tailoring
B: Use bulletproof kevlar against the sentry bots
C: Use JHP rounds against the dogs. It hurts them HARD
D: The mutant humans are very strong, dont let them get close to you, buy some traps to paralyze them and then shoot them first
E: fight in doorways, fight dogs 1 by 1, dont get surrounded, you wont win.
D: use grenades whenever its advantageous, it will knock out most enemies, esp dogs

Styg should honestly just rename the difficulties to

easy -> normal
normal -> hard
hard -> ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard.

Seriously though, it would put an end to a lot of these threads, because people expect games these days to have "easy" on a video game mean a 12 year old can beat it, and normal your average adult with no experience in the genre can on his first try.

Which is not at all the case here. So they start on normal and find out they wasted their time.

Illusionary took the words right out of my mouth. Level 3 of GMS compou presents a difficulty spike that is going to turn a lot of players off. This needs to be fixed. The sentry's shoot shoot flashbang combo had me cursing at my screen for a few good hours until I got lucky. I have also been watching streamers on twitch spend hours on this quest and skate by with a blessing of luck.

They are not that hard to get around unless you try to go blazing in. Takes some planning and use the vents. I always use the vents go grab the key off the deadbody in the middle and then run back to the top right room close the door and wait for the bots to leave. You have to time it just right for what I said to work. I also destroy any camera I dont want to locate me to the bots. this way I can lead them where I want them to go.

As you grow up you stop having so much free time to waste on games. Eventually you want a game that offers a challenge while it doesn't make you reload for hours trying to beat the same area.

I'm not disagreeing! I even argued with styg to make separate difficulties and we got it, but they're named in a way that is confusing for some people xD The "easy" difficulty is actually the difficulty you should play on your first time.

The difficulty doesn't "spike" after Depot A... it remains at about that level.

Edit: And I was being serious mostly about renaming them, that wasn't a joke. Though, of course, for people's delicate sensibilities we can't have a difficulty called "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard" :D

Nobody here is asking for the game to be easy but if youre not meant to face the sentries head on, then the other options should not be so cryptic. Obviously you should use the vents but there is no shaft leading to actual location where the key is located. Additionally, there is a camera on the body carrying the key in the center of the room, so the chance of being spotted is always high. Basically, you have to replay and tweak your attempts until you get it right. I dont think quickloading from a save 200 times to progress a main quest is considered challenging or fun. Moving on, (knowing NOW how everything is laid out, after having played that mission with various builds) that particular section of the missions is not as difficulty, due to foreknowledge. Still, getting spotted by a sentry always results in an instant quickload.

Well, partn of the problem with the difficulty spike here, is that I don't think styg tested his new sound system very much, us open beta EA people never got a chance to play with it :/

Used to be, you could face the sentries one by one. In that case there were a bunch of different methods for dealing with them, as a single sentry could be killed with any character who was tough enough to survive the rest of the game. You had drugs, shock bolts, emp grenades, et.

Now however, any big noise alerts them all, and their flashbangs make a lot of noise it seems. You just can't face two bots head on in leather armour. So you're stuck with avoiding them (if you didn't cheese the early game by crafting a tactical vest).

Which wasn't supposed to be the only solution.

As it is right now, being caught will leave you getting flashbanged by 3 sentries. You literally have to skip your turn until you die. Maxed out evasive will not save you. You can exploit the game by throwing nades or caltrops then hiding behind closed doors since the sentries cannot open doors and will eventually forget about you.

I don't know about you guys, but just buy bulletproof vests and those sentry bots will do puny damage, like 2dmg 3 dmg 5 dmg max
