Am I missing something here?

Okay, bought the game. Started the game up, built my character. On Normal. Classic XP System.

Put points in Guns, Dodge, Evasion, Thought Control, Psychokinesis, Mechanics, Chemistry, Electronics and a few points in Persuasion. Have a pistol. Have Neural Overload and Telekinetic Punch.

Okay, get quest to go restart outposts in the north. Alright. Go north from floor 1. First encounter with the Rathounds. Unable to kill a single one before I die. They overwhelm me and keep critting me to death. Okay, go down side path, suddenly stalkers who utterly destroy me. Am I meant to actually go south because no matter what, my first encounter keeps destroying me, and I don't know if its cause I took the pill or because I'm underequipped for only having a pistol and the armour is equipped so...? Cause I kept trying something different when I had to reload but it didn't change the outcomes at all.

Uhh, did you go to the barracks at level 1? Or the caves at level 9? If you're at floor 1, you're at the wrong place.

Level 1 is infested with rathound alphas and high level bandits, avoid that place for a while

Definitely went the wrong way. Take the other exit into the caves, not the one into the rail station.

Yeaah, "Down into the caves" does NOT mean "Up to Floor 1". That might be your problem there.

Well, then seems like I did get it wrong. I dunno why I kept thinking that the 'caves' would be at Floor 1, I guess its because it made sense in the sense of me thinking it was the main entrance of the station. Oh well, good thing for these forums. I feel kind of embarrassed... guess I didn't read the conversation with the NPCs that well... whoops.

I did the exact same thing the 1st time I played the game. I just couldn`t find the caves because I kept going out the other exit!

Rathounds are still pretty dangerous while you're lvl 1-2. They get bonuses for surrounding their target, so try hard to isolate one, or stay near the zone transition. You will get attacked next time you cross, but as long as you kill one, it'll be easier. The beginning is pretty tough, so don't despair.

And don't forget to go cry to the doctor and get free heals. ;)

Best way of dealing with the rathounds in the outpost area is run behind the gate and close it, begin killing it with any range weapon or psi skill you have. It may be cheap/cheezy but those first few steps out into the rail can be a doozy for those who are unfamiliar (or first time player) with the game's mechanics.

Use the compass, North-east=north, north-west=west, south-west=south, south-east=east.

Dont spread yourself too thin on combat skills, focus on 2 at most for the first 10 levels or so, than feel it out from there.

Yeah, I can tell I should probably focus on other combat skills. Got a knife as a backup, but got this Scoped Zephyr Crossbow off one of the fights. Repaired it and good lord that 4K Value. The bartering system is interesting, I have to remember that 1 Credit = 10 Value, kinda wish I could type in exactly how many I wanna split off my stacks of credits but oh well.
