Fishing Thread [Release Build]
It doesn't seem like one of these existed for the release version yet, so I thought I'd start one. The idea is to list maps where you found certain fish or items. I'm sure the wiki will eventually have all this information, but in the meantime...

Item found/Location

Laser Pistol/Two maps South of Morde (the fisherman who likes cigars) [Note: Requires TNT to be available, so can only be reached after the drill board main quest is done]
Pentapus/Two maps South of Morde
Black Dragon/Two maps South of Morde

I found Tracking Goggles in the blue eel pools west/north of Junkyard.

On a side note, fishing with 3 dex is such a pain in the ass that I'll probably save this quest for some other playthrough, lol.

Minihead: jyt2 (area right before abram's hideout for rescuing mara, before siphoner pools)
Blue Eel: Pretty much anywhere, specifically in siphoner pools
Angler/puffer: Various junkyard, mostly junkayrd docks

so, does dex affect your chance to catch fish?
Greep Dec 23, 2015 @ 12:08pm
Yup. Dex 4 from eel sandwiches isn't much better unfortunately

Slackjaw: core city sewers

did a 2 our fishing trip to silent isle yesterday, got loads of blue eels, miniheads, anglers, pentapus, puffer, shrimps and walking fish.

then I caught a black dragon in the pool just next to the fishing quest npc.

Huh.... is it even based on location?
PiggyFrog Dec 24, 2015 @ 2:54am
I don't know how much location mattes, it does have some effect as when fishing in the siphoner pools NW of junkyard you get pretty much 100% blue eels.

But I think it works something like vendor inventory, a set of fish is created at a zone by some random function when you enter, and gets reset after a period of time.

Ghostface can only be found, to my knowledge and experience, in the last area of the game. i.e. The Deep Caverns.

So, how do you even get a fishing pole to start fishing? I am just doing the Gorsky quests right now, so not too far into the game. But, I did meet the fisherman south of the Gorsky area who wanted raw meat. He won't give me a fishing pole, though.

And, what's up with his cigar? He won't let me have one. Is this just a red herring (pun intended)?

Only one I know of that's gauranteed is one of the first guys who gives you the watch quest outside of SGS. I think it can be found randomly elsewhere.

Edit: So if ghostface is only found in deep caverns, I guess the description of the quest is a bit off. He says lower underrail, but the deep caverns isn't part of lower underrail.

It's possible that ghostface is just an incredibly rare drop. Like I said, all of my knowledge comes only from my own experiences and those I read here and on the underrail.com forums. I myself have only caught one in DC, but to be fair I didn't really care about the fishing quest until I finished Core City (I had too much other stuff on my mind), so it's possible I just didn't get lucky until I got to DC.
Other people have reported only catching it in DC, too, so there's that.

Also, I'm pretty sure he specifically calls it the "Southern Tour"--as in, Southern Underrail, where the entire game takes place--not the "Lower Tour." And the Deep Caverns the player visit are in South Underrail, so it still counts. ;)
