How do I progress the main quest?
- Defeated everyone except Carnifex (♥♥♥♥ that 1 rounding piece of ♥♥♥♥)
- Did all JKK quests
- Spoken to Buzzar/Hugo

No messanger from the oligarch. Wtf am I to do to continue with the main quest? What kind of clueless dev puts MQ behind a triggered NPC...?

Pretty sure you have to defeat Carnifex and become the Invictus before you can proceed with the Oligarchy quests. If you are having trouble beating him because he kills you on the first turn, then you should try spamming Enter before the opening cutscene ends and the fight itself begins, because that will make you attack first in the fight without having to worry about getting a high enough initiative roll to normally go before him.
The best recommendation I can give to you, otherwise, is to try and immobilize him as best you can, and if you have points in Thought Control then you can use the Fear skill to make Carnifex afraid and he will stop attacking you and instead just run away into a corner where you can easily take him down.

The easiest way to beat Carnifex is equip armor with the highest fire resist you can and use a ranged weapon.

On your first turn throw an incendiary grenade at your feet.

Carnifex will run out of the fire and stand there picking his nose waiting for it to go out since he has no ranged attack.

Shoot him in the face while he waits.

The End.

Weird...I got the messenger before beating Carnifex (actually, I beat him after finishing the main storyline). I was working for Coretech so maybe that is the reason. The boss (edit: Coretech's boss of course :-D ) even said something like "I hope that one day you'll become an Invictus."

Have to? Absolutely not. A great many people have beaten him without the cheese.

Yet you can't. For you it's too hard with the character you have. Therefore, the easiest way is now an option.

That's completely different from 'have to'.

It is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ RPG when a certain build is required to progress the game, sorry.
No speech check.
No prep time before he comes.
Can't utilize any non-combat skills at all.
What if I, shockingly, actually thought this was an RPG and tried to build a speech-crafting specialist? Or a character that is an expert at throwing and using guerilla tactics?

They just throw you into a room with a character with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stats who rush you before you are even able to react. I realize that people who haven't played actually good RPGs might not see why this is horrible design, but it really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is.

I guess JKK might be bugged then?

Why do you insist on making a fool of yourself like that?

You are taking the stance that every game in the category RPG is the same thing. That's idiotic. This is not a story based rpg (Adventure Game). This is not an action rpg (ARPG). This is a tactical turn based rpg.

The particular point in this tactical game that you are crying over is an arena combat and you cry about not being able to talk your way out as if that proves it is a bad game? Are you freaking seriously trying to say that?!

And guess what? In a tactical rpg, if you don't do a good job of developing your character -- you lose and have to start over.

Working as intended.

If that's not your kind of game then fine. Play an adventure game, or a point-and-click game, or an arpg, instead.

"Its a tactical RPG"
Yeah its like Fallout. The game it heavily copies. Or for example Jagged Alliance. Or Commandos. Or Planescape. Games where you are given options and not forced to jump into a fight where all the RPG elements are thrown out the window.

And guess what, you ignorant oaf, most "tactical" RPGs give you the option to use different skills and ways to handle situations. If the game goes full on combat without any options, why not simply remove non-combat skills? Why ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ have skills that according to you "ruin" my build? Why even call it an RPG when it clearly might as well be class focused since so many skills are negated by ♥♥♥♥♥♥ design? Oh wait, because manchildren like you don't understand what makes a good RPG good.

Now ♥♥♥♥ off if you don't have anything worthwhile to say.

Calm down, guys.
BlackMuckla, have you tried going to Gunnar Edstrom's office even though you haven't been contacted by a messenger? If I remember correctly, talking to the messenger isn't what starts the quest; you can just go to JKK and you'll be let in to his office even if you aren't the Invictus.

Will try that. Thank you!

You use the non-combat skills in -- guess what -- non combat situations. I guess that little titbit was too hard for you to figure out on your own. And guess what? When you choose a dialog option that says, "Ok I want to fight the champion!" That means you have chosen to engage in a fight.

Boy this sure is complicated. Wait here while I go draw you a diagram.

And you want something worthwhile from me? I gave you that in my first post explaining how to beat the champion even if your build is not up to it.

But you got your panties all bunched up because what? You couldn't figure it out on your own? Or is it because you had decided it was impossible and were all set to declare the game flawed. But then you had to face the fact that it was not impossible and your small litlle mind just couldn't deal with that failure now could it?

"Hurrrr I don't understand the problem"
Yeah, no real point in discussing with you... Stay in your playpen with the rest of the slow children.

Well it takes a lot from/pays homage to Fallout (and many other cRPGs) but I don't think it's fair to say that it's "like Fallout". It's Underrail with its own set of rules, which are frankly quite different from Fallout's. Character building works quite differently in both games and so does the combat. I even heard Styg saying in an interview that he did his best NOT to copy Fallout in the combat department.

Being similar to Fallout is pretty much unavoidable when making turn-based post apocalyptic RPGs. And the to name a few similarities I noted while playing the game:
1. You come from a vault (station) and is sent on a quest to locate a high-tech mcguffin water chip/the artifact
2. You face mutants, a military paladin-like faction (protectorate/brotherhood/Enclave)
3. You visit vaults, face mutated monsters, discover old-world tech
4. There is a faction whose motivation is at the beginning unclear, but are seen as strange and dangerous (faceless/the master)
5. You don't have a party, you are a loner. You are ignorant of many things that are seens as obvious to most. You gain reputation with different towns/factions and you come from "the south"/Vault
6. A faction has the goal to mutate/evolve humanity into something that can survive in the post-apoc world (tchortians have the exact same motivation as the master)

But yes, the combat feels quite different (Underrails is worse IMO) and the lack of choice in Underrail make the game more combat focused.
