Custom portraits
I've looked through the archives and I'm having trouble figuring out how to input the image I want into the game. As the wiki is down I can't go there for help. From what I understand currently, I make a 100x100 pixel image, and a 50x50 pixel one, with _l coming before the .png for the large one, and _s for the smaller one. These supposedly go into the custom portraits folder in my documents. What parts of this are correct and what do I need to do?

you need to put _l and _s at the end of your file for the large and small potrait.
and the potraits need to be 100x100 for the large one and 50x50 for the small one.

I believe the unit was measured in pixels, not sure though.

Yeah, that's the post I was looking at actually. I did those things and the portrait isn't appearing in the selection screen when I go to make a new character. Do you have any idea what I'm supposed to do beyond this?

Not sure. I have many custom portraits and they work fine, but couldn't remember the exact steps.

The correct path to put them is definitely Documents (as in not Program Files), so something like C: > user > username > Documents, or just Documents from quick access menu in file explorer.

Huh. That's definitely where I deposited my pngs into--the customportraits file

OH. I see what I did wrong from this. I had to copy the original image and just resize it, as opposed to making a different slice of the image that's 50 by 50 pixels. The original microsoft paint works for that end. Thanks for the help, both of you.

Google is navigating to this page if I query it about how to get custom portraits working on the Steam Deck, so I wrote a guide (linked here) to potentially help people in future:

I just thought I'd mention this out of observational interest than anything else: I noticed that it does not really matter what size your portraits are as long as they are "box-like" in both width and height pixels. The game automatically resizes the images in game for you so you only really need to make sure the naming conventions of the png file and portrait location is correct.
