How to detect Crawlers?

I'm level 14 and I have 166 detection, still can't detect them.

Night vision helps? I thought it only mitigate range attack penalty. I am wearing a motion tracking googles(+50%) though, plus a feat provides another 20%, still can't detect it. But it's a death crawler not the regular one.

Not much, but yes. Deaths stalkers also have overinflated stealth score which you can't reach without 10+ PER, stick to bad adivce then. also avoiding them completely works, i don't think there's anything of value in their habitats

I usually stick to flares, since I don't use traps, nor have the feat(s). They will hide behind the nearest corner, so it is often possible to un-hide them with good guessing. If you are certain where he hides (sometimes there is only one option), you can un-hide with a grenade or molotov.

crawlers and stalkers always get the drop on me (3 per).
so i usually drop an electrokinetic Imprint (psi ability) and then throw a fireball somewhere to lure them in.
problem solved.
it also helps to have the perk "thick headed" so that you cant get stunned, should they manage to land a hit.

Flares can unstealth them, or you could just throw about 10 bear traps at your problem, it tends to fix my problems.

Place a bear trap by the door and whiff flares in, once you get him fire more nades on top until its ready for your trap. Death Stalkers are stupid hard to detect and I've never done so naturally, according to some lore they're depicted as moving shadows and may not even exist at all, although they obviously have predetermined spawns and whatnot, I feel as though the game wants these guys to hurt you, So yeah i'd flare and trap a door way, if you can end it without taking a ton of damage you've done damn well.
