The Drones Question

Well, I've completed Gas the Drones quest. Don't know if there was any way to complete the quest alternatively without commiting a war crime instead just not completing it, but ok. I'm curious now, could I return to their base later on for the loot? Is there any equipment that could prevent the mutation process?

There's no equipment that can prevent the mutation and if you want loot you better be swift during the mission if you want something. Also no way else to complete the mission any other way, might have different strategies doing it, but in the end they get gassed and turned into mutants.

Thanks! Well, that's dissapointing if that's so. At first I kinda wanted to be some kind of double agent, working prefereble for the Oculus maybe, but later on I get that they don't care about anything but spying for everyone for no reason.

You can actually join the Free Drones if you really don't want to gas them. But the option to do that starts with the Rail Crossing missing train quest. I'm guessing you are long past that.

Yeah, but in that case theres only option to leave the train to them. I finished it with Persuasion check and I found those guys hilariously edgy at this point, just like a bunch of teens with guns. I'll probably join them in one of the next playthroughs, I kinda wanted to meet the only Slav at the station (besides the encounter with Gray Army soldiers during the Dude's quest from DLC). Well, now he's got Chernobyl-like experience I guess, that's unfortunate.

If you want to loot the base you should enter the base without activating the gas bomb - kill everyone, loot and then go back down to start the war crime.

Exactly this.
And, to be fair, if everyone is already dead, no one will turn into a mutant once you flood the base.

Yup. If there's anything video games taught me it is that killing people is an effective way to prevent something bad from happening to them. :p

I think this was my favourite quest in the game, mainly because the only way my glass cannon psionic could beat it was by triggering the gas, then waiting until everybody inside had either turned into a mutant or been killed by their mutated buddies and then fought my way out through the unarmed mutants.

Was fairly clever how the easiest way to beat the quest was just to wait a bunch of turns.

So the clouds of mutagen could actually dissapear, am I get this right? At first I tried to wait untill everyone turned into a mutants, but it was nearly impossible to go through after that without getting Mutation effect.

Aclually no. You may just kill them in normal way before turning on that bomb. Just climb down the ladder chop/fry/shoot them all, loot their bodies and stashes, climb back into the vent, turn on that bomb and walk amongst dead bodies through empty base.
