I belive this quest is a bit of a trap becouse as you say you feel compeled to see it through to the end, in this case helping Doctor M will leave you scared. Strongman warnes you that going in is a bad idea and you might even die.
So it seems the optimal solution is to let go off temptation to do it yourself and let Strongman attempt it.
What's weird for me is that I seemed to have resisted all (or maybe most - there was one that gave me the idea I might have failed, or just barely succeeded), and I keep dying instantly with a will of 10 (psi-heavy build).
I get this message when I have my choice of actions, after being told I cannot endure it and that the link is nearly severed: "I will enter his chamber. You will stay behind. The link will be severed, and after that, you will be free to leave. Nothing else can be done, for your will was too strong. And after this... it will be even stronger, sir."
With me the robot "Man" said I had a very strong link with Dr, and that thanks to the fact that I had survived the visions and the struggles, I was "strong" and "resilient" enough to enter the room and " do what had to be done ". So my character came in and killed Dr.
I don't know if this all has to do with having Strength 11 and Constitution 11 ..
Your strong will is great enough to face this poor monstrosity and end its miserable unlife; thus you're rewarded with a feat that hurts you in the long run.
**The feat gives a 3% critical chance bonus against humans and non-insectoid critters, while also reducing the character's resolve by 30%.**
Stygg please make it 5% crit chance across the board while and 5% reduction to resolve, then it's bearable.
If you help him you get the terrible feat and if you don't, you get nothing.
What I've figured by reading here: If you have high will and resist the incursions in to your mind, your link to the doctors mind will suck and hence you will die if you try to go in with him.
I had low will, hence great link, but since the robot wouldn't explain to me what exactly entering the room with the doctor would entail, I backed out. Since The doctor insist I help him, I have to kill Man to convince him to let me leave.
Philosophy:
The robot mentions at some point that the doctor want true death. The ferryman does not approve of assisted suicide since according to him that would be false death and says it only leads to further confusion and decent to the core. But since this is said to be true death, that might not apply. Buut true death is cessation of action which I interpreted as me stoping gameplay and not picking it up again. soo true death is not possible for the doctor at this point, cause I intend to play more.
So i basically have indestructible will and no horrors can dominate me. Yet somehow my Resolve gets -30% penalty?? WTF?
That clearly must be a bug. It would only make sense if my resolve increased because i managed to overcome great obstacles, and it all was great will power training for my character.
IMHO there should have been two different results here - first if you failed the WILL checks and were forced to kill the doctor and second where you passed the WILL checks, and then decided to help to end his suffering - you get a different perk that would actually give bonus to Resolve.
