Quinton's Rathound Quest

I'm having problem with this quest. I got his crossbow and bolts. On several occasions I met up with the rathounds and used Quinton's crossbow and bolts. The rathounds dropped Healthy Animal Heart, Adrendal Gland, and/or Fancy Rathound Ear. When I returned to Quinton to turn in these items, I got no dialogue about his quest, other than to barter them. At this time I ran out of Quinton's bolts and had to purchase new ones.

Questions:
1. Do I have to use his bolts to complete the quest?
2. Is there a "special" rathound that I had to kill to collect the issue?
3. If so, where is this "special" rathound?
4. When I collect the rathound remains, does the item have to say "Tissue"?

Side questions:
When I check my inventory for the Fancy Rathound Ear, I cannot find it! Where did it go? This happened twice. Did they change to another item? I found Rathound Leather in my inventory, but I don't remember where I picked them up.

you need to hit any rathound with his bolt and kill it whatever you want afterwards.
yes, there supposed to be a "tissue" item
fancy ear is an oddity item, press O to look at them.

I just killed a batch of rathounds. I paid much more attention this time. You're right about Fancy Rathound Ear, it is an Oddity, which is why they don't appear in the inventory. And Rathound Leather is a dropped items. I have no more Quinton's bolt and I have used the purchased bolts. So, does this mean that I cannot complete Quinton's quest? Rats!

Are you actually hitting the rathound with the bolts..?
The SPECIAL bolts, that is?

1) Quinton gives you ten (10) special bolts (they're called Putrefying Bolts, I believe) during dialog. These are not the same as the bolts in the locker or the bolts you find in the world.
2) You have to equip those special bolts in your belt slot
3) You have to shoot a rathound with the special bolt *and not kill it*
4) You then have to kill the rathound, which will drop the quest item you need.

Yes. I keep on shoot Quinton's bolt and even with the purchased bolts until they are dead. Also the bolts that I got from Quinton's locker does NOT say it is SPECIAL. They are just bolts. They look like the purchased kind.

I found the Putrefying Bolts in my inventory. I did not know I had them. And I must have pick the regular ones somewhere along the way and used them. Thank you for your inputs. I, now, know what I had to do the next time I confront the rathounds.


SUPPLEMENTAL
I got 5 Rathound Tissues using 5 Putrid Bolts, easily fulfilling Quinton's quest requirement. Are there any future uses of these Putrid Bolts? Don't want to waste them if there are.

Hello there !

Nope, once youre finished, the "putrefiying bolts" are useless. And Quinton needs only one tissue sample, so any leftovers : just dump them in a barrel or dumpster or something. They are quest thingies and once dealt with the quest : no more uses. (or maybe instead of a barrel, put them in your locker on level 5 private quarters ? So youll know where you left them ...)
