[SPOILERS] Quest flow inconsistency
I'm pretty sure there are other cases like this in the game, but thought I'd quickly write about this.

Since the game is very flexible, and it allows you to do different quests in different orders, and some quests even have different layers that can be done at different times, this can sometimes lead to loopholes like this one.

This includes spoilers, so read on at your own risk!

TL;DR: If you kill the Rathound King and then tell Edgar to go kill him alone, Edgar mysteriously dies anyway.

I have visited the Rathound King before even entering Camp Hathor. I then agreed to kidnap Sarine. I then visited Camp Hathor, accepted the Burrower quest and kidnapped Sarine. Kidnapping her teleports you to the Rathound King's lair, where her husband comes to rescue her. I killed everyone at the lair (including the King and Sarine). I then finished the Burrower Emergency quest, and talked to Edgar about the Rathound King. I told him that he would have to kill him alone. I then visited the Rathound King's lair, only to find that Edgar has mysteriously joined the rest of the corpses. Best I could come up with was that he walked all over the burrower poison coated caltrops I left there, and died for being an idiot who doesn't wear steel boots (lol jk).

In this scenario, the ideal thing would be that after you tell him to go kill the King himself, and the screen blackout happens (which teleports Edgar to his death), there would instead be a timer after which Edgar comes back to camp. On the other hand, you could just remove the option to tell him to kill the King himself, if the King is already dead.

Edgar is an expendable character, he offers little story to the game aside from being a minor questgiver up to that point

Late game spoilers;
If you sell out the rathound king then you will encounter him much, much later in the game. He will attack you on sight because he knows you sold him out. So it does kinda get wrapped up

What I'm complaining about is really minor - the fact that Edgar can die in the lair, off-screen, even when the lair is devoid of life (since I killed everyone there). So I think the option for Edgar to die - once the Rathound King is dead - should be removed. Or at least make it so that if the Rathound King is dead, then Edgar would die to one of the traps instead, and lett the player find his corpse in the minefield at the secret door or in the labyrinth, as opposed to him lying dead in the middle of the lair, next to the other corpses.

As I said this is minor because the "obvious" dialogue choice that I think most people would go for is where the player just tells Edgar that the Rathound King is already dead, so this story thread where Edgar dies wouldn't generally even be pursued.

By the way I must say that the Sarine kidnapping was a very interesting piece of story. I am playing a Stealthy Knife build, and I found the option to "play innocent" with Edgar after Sarine's disappearance, (after you yourself as the player bring it up in conversation) to be really matching the build's theme.

Yeah the first time I completed this quest was similar to what you described - I disabled all his traps and then placed them at the entrance to his lair. I threw a molotov in to provoke him and watched him crawl through all of his own traps.
*troll face*

So really there was zero threat in that area, but Edgar still died and was nowhere to be found.

I completely agree it's full of holes and kinda sucks from a consistancy perspective.
