Here's a gameplay video from GameSpot for the Xbox version:
http://youtu.be/y17hzOV4jeg
yes it is
This is a parody of old school games (and not just a parody of Oregon Trail except in a very loose theme way). The graphics and gameplay all are part of the gag. Like all humor though, you either get it or you don't. I for one laughed quite a bit, especially when I got the space shuttle "wagon".
Humor issues aside, it is also more playable than most "gag" games, although it won't hold your attention for more than a few hours (thus the cheap price tag). Recommended for those still capable of smiling.
Id like to think the "historically accurate" is a dev joke.
I have a newfound respect for all the brave settlers who journey'd to Oregon. I had no idea how many pterodactyls, unicorns, and pirate ships they had to overcome to get there, all these years I thought disease and starvation were the killers but no, turns out diseases only weaken you and you really only starved if you didn't have the fortunes of finding a pet falcon.
