Melee weapons
First of all let me begin by saying: I absolutely love this game, I am a huge fan of Zombies and survival games and lets face it there have been a lot of ♥♥♥♥ made while trying to combine the two. But "How to Survive" delivered with a plus. With that said, let me rant away. The meele weapons... I think everyone knows where im going with this, but i'll say it anyways, the meele weapons in this game aren't balanced at all, I mean when the "Boomer" type zombie dude gets close to you he explodes, nearly killing you on Iron Man difficulty, and if you shoot/hack him he explodes also, what im getting at is that probably 90% of the players don't even bother using meele weapons because of this. Eko i love this game, I truly do, but this one flaw is too big to overlook, it's taking from us players, the chance to complete the whole game while playing "Rambo style" and going bat-crap crazy on those zombies with a chainsaw. I know you can switch weapons quite fast, but it defeats the whole fun of setting personal achievements of completing the game with meele only. Yes, the "Boomers" aren't the biggest thing in the game, but it feels like this little thing is really bringing down the score. If it weren't for this shortcoming I would give this game 9.5/10 and name it my favorite zombie game, but because of this incomplete meele system i have to give it 8/10 at a max. Maybe kind developers who worked on this wounderful game so hard, could work just a bit more and think of something regarding this issue. Thank you to all who listened to my ranting.

With best regards,
Poffke

Regarding the melee weapons there are just too few!

- bat
- machete
- chainsaw

Another thing about this is, there's no real character that would use melee weapons because of the missing skilltree.
I mean Jack is kinda tanky but he's just too good with the rifle, why bother to use something else.
I think there should be a class that focuses on the boomerang and melee weapons....

Melee Weapon is pretty much not used unless it's a chainsaw in late games (or when you are cutting down bushes). It would be great if they have character skills for melee combat.

All melee weapons:
-Wooden Stick
-Wooden Axe
-Iron Axe
-Rusty Machete
-Iron Stick
-Chainsaw (low+high capacity)
-Improved Chainsaw (low+high capacity)
-Golden version of all the above weapons if you combine them with Red Stone

I'm with you on that. Although I stopped using melee altogether when I found out I could just burn the bushes down with a flaming arrow (which is pretty freaking cool! Not to mention you can retrieve those arrows back) :P.

A burning stick or arrow is great for brush, but the true value of a melee weapon is when a horde closes the distance and starts to mob you. The chainsaw is especially helpful in those cases since you can rev it and spin a circle to hit the zeds in all directions.

Melee is only useful in the beginning, but after you progress, it does become irrelevant to use/carry. Except when you need one to craft... ( I should not have dropped the machete, damnit.)

I disagree, though to each their own. I found value in my golden iron axe all the way through the final battle. There are plenty of times when you're waiting for a boomerang to return, or the aiming mechanics prevent you from hitting an enemy at close range who is circling you. This is where melee saves you.

Nice. I usually like to keep as far away as possible, and try to line up shots (like hitting 2 or 3 enemies in one shot). Mostly because I suck at the melee in this game :P. I have the chainsaw and metal axe, which I normally use when I box myself in a safehouse and just mow 'em down as they come :P.

:)

I just wish the final battle had a really nice defensible position, i ended up using a bunch of attractive bombs to stay alive when the mobs started getting really thick and the aiming on the ranged started to fail me. Seems a but wonky sometimes, i swear i have my stick pointed straight at him, but then i need to move it side to side for it to lock.

Golden Iron Axe and Golden scoped long range rifle is a nice combo!

Shrooms+white plant for the win. Also you can trigger fat guy and run away-mostly it works. Or you can just carry any ranged weapon to do a single headshot.
