Do items on the ground ever disappear?

As title says, do they? By now, I have a fair number of helmets lying around the second island, which is kind of annoying...

i have been wondering the same thing! i've got loads of items i might need in the future and don't want to lose them. or can you upgrade the carryign capacity?

To answer my own (and Marksdog's) question: pretty sure items on the ground stay indefinitely, the helmets I dropped near the start of the game are still there hours later. So you can store items this way.

i've played on and figured out that items that you have dropped stay there but items that are on dead enemies disapear, so if you want it later but don't have space pick it up and drop it straight away to prevent it disapearing.

i usually drop items inside the safe house .. easier to find them later and they never disappeared before
